I think some late night browsing got the better of me on ebay and the guitar was reasonably priced (before canadian gouging at customs of course ) P⁹retty cool guitar though the setup is Def not for me and the damn thing won't stay in tune lol. It's nice they upgraded the tuners to gotoh but I kind of wish they were traditional. Anyway, I'm going to have to set it up with the saddles brought down some, look how that piece protrudes. ( edit, maybe it needs to come up or I need shorter screws.. strange) Digs into my palm when I'm doing "fury" runs ( ie, harmonic minor). There are tons of the Japanese models around before they signed a deal with him and then they released tons more with ever i creasin scallop depth. As this is my first scallop, im happy with how it feels. Not too drastic for me.

Model wise, this one is supposedly an 89-90 ST-72-806. Has the brass nut and someone also put some HS3's in there. I remember these being weak and they are exactly that BUT come alive with a Marshall and a dod 250 that's for sure. That's the tone right there. Let's hope I can get it restrung and holding its tuning or she's a ?. Anyway, have a look.

It won't stay in tune because there are big ass divots in the fretboard! Sweet looking axe, I hope you do get the tuning issue figured out.

Yeah I have zero experience with scallops...I just thought why not? Was watching some old alcatrazz footage and one thing led to another.

Magnificent score!! I like the early models with the shallow scallops.

Yeah unless I am mistaken, if you watch old yngwie, it looks like very light scallops vs the later models. Surprise surprise, his playing has also gotten shittier the more extreme he went on everything. Hotter pickups, more gained out sig pedal, more compression, more gain on his sig amp, deeper scallops, more chains etc..

Just to report back, after some string stretching and pencil graphite, even with the wrong gauge in this thing, it is now handling dives and going back where it should. I am not a huge whammy guy but nice to know this can hold up to bends and some trem abuse when i need it. I'm gonna string it with 8-38's but leave a 42 on low E. Sounds chunky on this thing. I think I like brass nuts too. Nice bite. I think I am liking these 6 point trems vs that bitch of a 2 point wilkinson that just won't stay in tune with a tusq nut.

did you see the fender B&W evh stringing video? seems kinda crazy but if it works right? killer guitar dude...I'm very jealous. I also have a brass nut on my greco sykes model-and I freakin love that guitar dude.

Awesome guitar, congrats. Hope you get the tuning figured out, usually I find the issue is in the nut, but being that’sa brass nut, not sure. Unless there are some rough grooves in the brass?

Yeah I was more confused after watching that video than I have been in quite some time. I have no idea what he is talking about lol..if that was his process, no wonder he jumped on Floyd's.

Honestly it is pretty steady now. I think the strings on it weren't stretched out or old and nobody had greased the nut. I used pencil led quickly and scribbled in under the saddles. Its doing the job.

I like it. ?

I have some old HS-3’s that I need to put to work.

They are interesting pickups. Total dogs and plane sounding into the amp but you hit them with a 250 and they deliver the goods.

I always used them with a 250 out front into my 67 and 71 super leads. No attenuators back then. I loved the preamp 250. I have a few of them. They are not all created equal either. Sometime in late 81 or 82, they changed a cap to make the yellow version have more bass…which made them sound like crap. The one on the far right had the different cap and I hated it, once I realized what was different, I swapped out the cap and boom, it was awesome.

Totally, I got the grey mod or outlier mod ( metro forum) in my YJM and I changed that one cap to have a bit more cut so it also works with humbuckers and it is killer. I just picked up a "DoD + " from China which is a clone that has MXR Disto+, Dod 250 yellow, Dod 250 grey spec and a micro amp on switches and it also is pretty solid. Yellow 250 mode is the leanest, Grey mode is only really good with the HS-3's. But bottom line, that circuit is amazing with single coils as long as that one cap is the right value. You are so right about that.
