Love them, this sounds so sick. Ken Andrew’s sets up all my guitars, his shop is in longwood for anyone local( LRC guitars). I literally won’t let anyone else touch my shit, he is the absolute BEST.

Anyone know what amps and other gear they’re using? Those powerchords in the beginning had a really killer growl, although the palm mutes sounded a bit messy, not tight or clear for my taste

Ken uses pretty much exclusively ESP’s these days, and has been pretty consistent on jcm 800s. They get their “signature sound” by rolling down the tone pot.

Old school Obituary is a ProCo RAT distortion box pushing JCM800s. Their tone hasn’t really changed but it’s just recorded better these days. Their rolled off tone pot thing is a nod to Celtic Frost who also used 800s but with a tube screamer instead I believe.

Very interesting, that actually makes perfect sense to what I was hearing. I could hear those mids that I thought were Marshally, but that fuzzy, darker quality had me confused as to what it was

Man, I have a hard time listening to Obituary since Ralph died a couple of years ago.

Ralph and I grew up together, went to school, hung out. I learned to play guitar with him. After I left for the military we were never as tight, but when we did see each other it was like old times.

Now just thinking of Obituary (or any of his other bands) just makes me think of his death…

Ralph is a legend. One of my favorites to ever do it. His work on deicide stench of redemption makes it one of my favorite death metal albums of all time.

I used to work with Trevor back when he was working on Slowly We Rot. I thought he was kidding about making an album, until he brought it to work and put it by the time clock. Shortly after, he quit, and headed to Europe on tour with Sepultura.
