Recto verb 25 kicks ass!

Yeah, I know..I’m about 10 years late to the party…what a versatile head. Almost has me wanting to gig again. Dare I say I like it better than the Mark V 25 I had. Clean channel pushed mode gets me classic rock crunch, with a nice clean with the volume rolled back. Crunch channel everyone already knows as it’s all over so many 90s records.

I sure liked the 50w version that I played when auditioning mesas way back. Never tried the 25w but I'm sure it's much the same.
 
Agree, it’s a great little head. Hit the front end with a Maxon OD808 and you’ll love it even more as it tightens up the low end. I own it along with the Mark V 25 watt. Love them both and blended they sound awesome. I run my Rectoverb 25 through a Mesa 1x12 3/4 back cab (sometimes through two) and it sounds huge.
 
Thanks for the tip. Haven't tried to boost it yet. I also run it into a Bogner cube. 2 cabs is def better than one!

boosting really makes them shine. It doesn't work very well with my tverb but with my other recs I would turn the treble to zero and then use the presence as the treble. Of course those things are made to be played with les pauls and PRS's.....

I think they have to use those power tubes for the lower power output amps? Or is it just a cost consideration? All of the "mini" head versions of big heads that use El34 have 84's in them that I've seen. Always thought that was just part of it

I've never had a problem keeping up with a drummer with EL84's, but my gig spots weren't good with super loud volumes. I like the 25 watts. easier to get the amps into the sweet spot, IMO
 
tubes don’t determine wattage but el84s have low breakup and get this annoying raspy high end at loud volumes. it works and adds a nice chimey shimmer when you’re cranking something with light breakup, but with much overdrive it’s irritating and harsh.

With my tverb I really like a more full range boost that doesn't clip the lows as much. They already have those sweeter mids so the typical 808/9 isn't quite as good for them IMO. I have a vfe focus that really sets it off, but even the mxr 6-band works good.

No, plenty of lunchbox amps use full-size tubes in the in the 20-25W vicincty. Soldano, Krank, PRS, Marshall, etc. They just run them at lower voltage which decreases the headroom.
 
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I’ve had no issues keeping up with a loud drummer who hits hard with my Mark V 25 watt and two Thiele 1x12. I haven’t tried the Rectoverb 25 in that setting but I really can’t see how that would be an issue. Mesa did it right with their small amps.
 
I agree, the RV25 is a killer amp! All the channels have solid tone, though I did find it didn't like to be played quietly..

Had one for a while. Sounded good for a lower watt amp, but did need to be turned up to not be congested. Then it ran out of headroom pretty quick.

^Sounds killer.

I have not tried the Rectoverb 25 but I have an OG Rectoverb (50) Series 2 that has lot of tonal ground. I didn't get much from the Treble on '0' thing like I do with my Splawn. Will have to try that again. Sounds great with different boosts and great with EL34s or 6L6s. Anything past 9 or 9:30 volume is super loud.
