Anyone own this ’13 reissue? Do the package and pedal look legit? ?

I cant answer your question, but not all DOD Preamp 250's are created equal. Notice the one cap is either 102k or 103k. 102k sounds better to my ears. The 103k cap is tubby and loose sounding. I have no idea what the new reissue uses.

200$ for a DOD 250? Geez. Just get a China clone. It's such a dead simple circuit, hard to go wrong on it if you have the right recipe. Some sound a bit better than others but tune that one cap for tightness and you will be happy for the most part.

Just dickheads thinking they're holding on to highly collectible pieces.

When they reissued these, and a couple other pedals, (another was the Bifet 410 Boost), they were selling them direct for like $49-$69, if I recall. They even had sales where they were even cheaper when they blew them out, (like, $40) I bought the Bifet, and 250 (they both sucked), and sold them for like $40 in like new condition on TGP.

They probably paid a little over $100 for all 5 of those pieces of shit.

I have a modded YJM 308 DOD, sounds great with single coils ! The mods are just a couple cap changes and a 3PDT switch for true bypass and the status LED.

Looks legit. I have one. Gifted from a friend. These are SMD, I believe.

Hi Dave,

Long time no see, I hope all is good! Thanks for the additional info on these.

I just love how the DOD YJM308 and Fender Yngwie ODs sound with my YJM Strat and Marshall so I want to check these newest reissues out. Then I will most likely buy one of those older reissues and mod it to gray 250 specs…

Yes, the prices have been insane during/after the covid especially when wanting new condition ones with the case candies. I had to pay 150€ for a mint Fender Yngwie OD and 100€ for a mint DOD YJM308. o_O But hey, no can do if wanting one like that… ?

Here is a pic some of you might have seen before. Here are all of my original preamp 250’s. The top one is the green version. The bottom one had that 103k cap and it sounded like shit. So I found a green 102k cap from a busted pedal I had and swapped it in. Boom, it was good again. lol.

You might notice that I removed the power jack on two of them. I always used batteries, and didn’t want that shitty design to affect the power (corrosion, etc). I likely did it in the early 1990’s.

Me too except mine has a fixed cap and no led where I like it and yes it sounds slightly better / different but not worth 200$ plus!

So, these are basically DOD's version of the MXR Distortion+ ?
A few parts swapped/ improved. Not as sloppy, more refined and can actually be used with a distorted amp lol. Randy is the only guy who ever used a distortion + and made it work it seems...

I'd say these days, get a good clone if you want to mix things up. The JHS clone can be had used for under 200$ and it has two settings. I have a China clone that does the yellow, grey, micro amp and distortion + in one. 80$ CAD. It's pretty cool and sounds great too. Not as good as my 308 modded but really close.

Looks like the only differences in the circuit are a treble-cut capacitor at the input, and the use of silicon diodes rather than the germaniums used in the MXR.

The early Iron Maiden and Accept also used the Dist+. Maiden had the MXR eq like Randy..not sure what Accept did but you can definitely hear that pedal with both bands.

Good point..closest i have gotten to it working is in fact with an eq...but then why not Dod250 it or use a Boss OD-1

I own a 90's RI and an original 80's one. Built a few grey box specs (see my PCB in attachment) and owned an YJM308 for a while...
They're all different. (see Excel list attachment with details for the tech nerds).
The grey box (with the exact components) is both sweeter and grittier. Courtesy of the LM741CN IC and ceramic disk caps.

The YJM had a 1nF input cap instead of 10nF and sounded noticably thinner.
My 90's one is just quite modded, green 5mm clearlense LEDs as clipping diodes (yes, the color matters...different threshold voltage), switchable input cap (for humbuckers and single coils), true bypass, status LED and standard Boss 9V adapter jack, since those 90's RI ones also had the nasty center positive mini-jack power jack.

I agree $200 is insane for the RI's... The 2013 RI's did have a sparkle paint on the housing, so the listing at least looks legit.
