First clip sounded kind of clankey. The second clip in a mix was cool.
Agreed, I’m already regretting posting that first phone clip!First clip sounded kind of clankey. The second clip in a mix was cool.
< TRIGGER WARNING>
The following clip:
- Is close miked
- Is double tracked
- Has bass and drums
- Contains slightly loose playing
- Is Tool
Do not listen if you have an aversion to any of the above - you have been warned.
LP custom with DDJ pickup - Zen prototype amp - Mesa recto cab - SM57 - Neve pre
Amp dialled in and mic placed for a relatively bright sound like the original recording. No post-EQ except for a gentle HPF at 100Hz (seeing as there's a pesky bass player involved).
Agreed, I’m already regretting posting that first phone clip!
Nay!! That clip took me to NWOBHM glory days. I loved it. That clip would sell me on the amp more than the tool like one. The toolish one sounded good too. So many new amps are trying to be refined Marshall’s. Fuck refined. Plus why just be Friedman 2.0.Agreed, I’m already regretting posting that first phone clip!
Much much better. Mids sit perfect and even forward. Sounds like you’ve got some volume on this too which helps to fill things out. Sounds great!!
What pickups are used here?
It's the silverburst Custom with Duncan DDJ pickup. Just can't get that Tool tone without the correct finish.Second clip definitely triggered me. Sounds great. Is that the black LPC in your other videos? The one that has a unique scooped kind of tone?
Ha! In a week tube amps may be defunct, gotta strike while the iron's hot.Yeah, second one is sooo much better.
I'm not an expert in this area but here is what I would do. I forget about this thread. Wait a week or so. Repost with the mix like you did, and then also offer up the mic'd non mix and then an inroom (cell) only recordings Then, instead of having a pic of your wall of your amps like normal - give us a some sneak peak VIP gut shots and build pics![]()
I don't LOL very often whilst online, but your one-liners almost always hit the mark. Well played sir.In true Tool fashion, the next clip should be coming in 8 years.
Thanks Jason, hope you’re well mate! The Alta looks fantastic btw ?Sounding fat guys, nice! The backing tracks, everything great.
Your user name triggered an Ivanhoe, Heidelberg Rd flashback. College Dropout is the name of the place. The Speilberger is the burger. It is a heart attack but the smile on your face as you pass into the afterlife will be legendary.Sounding fat guys, nice! The backing tracks, everything great.
Thanks, we both have the Leon Todd connection in common! Thanks Jason, hope you’re well mate! The Alta looks fantastic btw ?
