Just got a neck off eBay with an undisclosed issue...

I am just so jaded now. It is to the point that I have lost all faith, I will only buy a guitar that is in my hands.

Neck profile and fretwork were actually not bad, just the issues around the nut. I have no way of knowing if it had come from Fender with that nut but if it did, holy shit. I mean look at this:View attachment 166837
I bought a MIM from Stratosphere with a Floyd nut, and it was the same. Drinking too much tequila in Mexico.

Well fortunately for me, Parklane opened their custom orders back up today and I put in my order for the neck I really want to put on this thing I've been piecing together:

Big CBS era strat headstock, plain roasted maple with dark oil finish, 42mm nut, 10"-16" compound radius, medium C neck (.83-.94), jumbo rolled frets, and no fret markers on a richlite board. I was going to do ebony but I have/have had guitars with both richlite and ebony boards and honestly I like the richlite ones just fine. Good ebony is getting scarce, but the really good stuff with super tight pores is a little hard to tell apart from a richlite board and the richlite feels better to me. I'm always worried I'm going to get a streaky ebony board these days or one with more open pores/grain than it should have. I've seen some out there that look mighty thirsty.

The WD Music Clapton neck I have coming will be interesting to see. If it turns out ok I'll end up slapping it on another strat build when I get the Parklane. I have ordered more fret working tools and shit I need to start dealing with that myself so that cheap neck can be my guinea pig. I have some guitars with frets that sorely need crowning and I don't intend to take my first stab at it on them.

Well, I got this cheap WD Music replacement neck in today and it seems decent. However - it is supposed to have 11/32" tuner holes and they are off by about a whole goddamn millimeter. Digital caliper shows they're about 7.8mm in diameter when they should be more like 8.7. I don't think any tuners are made to fit a 7.8mm hole...

Guess I gotta go find a reamer somewhere.
