Hey Guys,
How could anyone not buy this thing after finding it on eBay? lol
I got instant George Lynch REH Wicked Sensation overdub vibes, although that guitar obviously had a Strat neck with ebony fretboard and quilted maple body, but still...
Since I got the guitar a few weeks ago, I changed the bridge and neck pickups. I found a 90s Duncan Custom TB-5 and an 80s Duncan Hot Rail on eBay which I wanted for the George Lynch vibe.
I really like the Hot Rail! It has 16k and is really fat and smooth for lead lines, which is exactly what I wanted. It's probably my favorite stacked single-coil yet and I'll get another one for the neck on my '93 Fender setneck Strat.
Unfortunately, the guitar does have its issues...
- the trem always stays 15 cent sharp or flat depending on which way you pull
- the frets are pretty low and the action needs to be high to get rid of most of the fret buzz (I'll probably have it refretted with 6105 or 6100)
- the locking nut was way too high, so I removed the shim and used a few layers of aluminum foil - there's some space in the neck pocket, which I tried to fill with aluminum foil for a tighter fit, which kinda worked
I think it's gonna sound better with new frets because some frets, especially higher on the fretboard, don't ring out cleanly.
Once I get my setneck Strat back from the refret, I'll decide where to send this one and which frets to get.
