That's the thing. That video created both at the same time. Nobody gave a damn about the Bad Monkey for the last 19 years until Josh comes around and casually mentions that it when you set it a certain way, it sounds like another big fancy expensive pedal when it is set a certain way.

Now buyers want one, and they're mad that the prices are now higher. Because they're idiots.

Yes, the price wouldn't be higher if the video hadn't been released, BUT ALSO, if the video hadn't been released, all these people wouldn't have suddenly wanted one. You can't have one without the other. The only way you could exist in a world where you're suddenly aware of how good the Bad Monkey is while the price stays the same, would be if JHS made the video and then went out of their way to only show it to the people who the video would have convinced to buy one and nobody else, including people selling the pedal. Even if JHS wanted to do that, it would be impossible to know which specific group of several thousand people to inform. But these people are just too stupid and selfish to realize that. All they know is that they suddenly want something they have just been told is good, and the price is more expensive than it was yesterday, and that "JHS is the reason it's more expensive."

Again, these people are morons.

There's just too many of these pedals floating around for them to be worth that much. In that sense yes people are morons to pay that much for one

The Maxon OD808 is actually very close to a TS9, it's supposed to be based on the same circuit as the ts808, but for some reason the circuit is more similar to the TS9. You think the Bad Monkey sounds like a OD808? Is that because they have a similar color, lol? I've had both, and the bad monkey sounds like a bad monkey (cheap overdrive), and the od808 and TS9 sound killer. But i will say the Bad Monkey is more flexible with it's EQ section.

Josh was using a Kemper for several episodes even though he showed his custom JHS Loud Is More Good, no one mentioned it; and when he "came clean" about it, the ensuing butthurt was entertaining.

Who is Josh Scott? Never heard of him. I think I've heard of JHS pedals, never played one though. Never really wanted to either.

No, because of the various OD pedals I’ve had including these, that’s just how it sounded to me. I guess for me I found I used the two in similar ways.

I’ve always tended to use the BBE Green Screamer which has a bit more of an open sound to it, so both the Bad Monkey and OD808 sound similarly darker in comparison to me. Of course you have a treble control on the BM but it still doesn’t open up the sound of it really. I don’t really like what that treble control does beyond a little nudge.

I sold my OD808 but kept the BM…mostly just because it wasn’t worth the effort to sell. I don’t ever really use it but I used to. For some reason it worked awesomely with a modded Laney AOR I used to have.

Well, then don't ever get a TS-9, cause it's basically the same thing as a od808. I've sold my TS-9 cause it sounded just like my od808. I can get mine (od808) to be fairly bright with the tone control, i'm usually at about 1 o'clock on mine.
 
It was Sgt Thump who discovered it on here first - back in 04 I think, he made clips, they were awesome and then we all went and bought it.

Heres a Crunch Box INTO a Bad Monkey....most people think the other way round is the way to use it....but theres no rules

Soooo what is it and does Tim Henson use one ??? ( or have one modeled and inserted in the chain of his dsp amp?)

My favorite klonklone was EHX Soul Food, but my HX Effects has a Hermida Zen Drive which works great if needed. Can still find used Soul Food around $60 - $70 depending on condition.

As for Tim, clearly he doesn't need one, seems his DSP amp and other software and Fractal are enough to make a living playing guitar.

As far as EQ knobs in Tube Screamer circuits, I think the Duncan 805 is great.

Of course, there are pedals that go more in depth with the EQ, but I also think the Duncan 805's core voicing is pretty clean, clear, and tight, regardless of where you set the EQ. Perfect for tightening up modern amps.
 
I no longer open click bait shit. I stay clear of many you tubers looking for clicks, subscriptions, bell smashing, patriot shit, etc...fuck them.
 
I bought one when they first came out. Still have it. Always thought it was good pedal, mostly b/c of the EQ.

I thought you might say soulfood. I've liked it in a lot of shootouts. Seems to do that thing without sacrificing the low end. Sometimes I feel like some of them lean towards being too " warm". I use a similar budget pedal, the mojofx sacred cow. It has a lean setting to shave some bass which I like. Nice and tight.
