If only there were a way to stop all these riots
Law enforcement, arrests, trials, sentencing...

...also martial law and National Guard when things get out of hand.

Failure to plan, failure to respond appropriately increased the amount of destruction and emboldened others and even greater destruction.

Many of the most destructive rioters were from other areas; they didn't destroy their own neighborhoods.

Doing nothing, and allowing rioters to act with impunity and without consequences doesn't work. As we can see.

The BLM movement after Floyd was murdered was nationwide and it was huge!
Estimates are between 15 and 20 million people took part, which makes it far and
away the largest mass protest against anything in the history of the country.

Demonstrations took place in all 50 US capitals, every other major city, as well
as thousands of smaller protests all across the country.

--------

You know how every year when a major sports team wins a national championship
for a city there's a huge celebration and people simply go nuts with joy.

Well, every stinking time there's a small percentage of assholes that need to go too
nuts and do stupid shit like lighting trash cans or cars on fire, smash a few windows, etc.

The jails in a city are packed full the morning after a championship. Happens every time.

And that's a happy mass celebration.

---------

We all watched a man get very slowly and excruciatingly murdered by a cop, while
other cops looked on and even prevented EMTs in the crowd from helping the dying
guy out - all while a bunch of other people were pleading with the cops to stop.

That was simply the straw that broke the camel's back.

Let's go low and say 10 million people protested, and that 1/10th of 1%, who were already
really angry (not happy like winning a championship), decided to go nuts and light shit on fire.

That'd be 10,000 crazy people breaking stuff all across the country.
Nothing even remotely close to that happened. Portland was the one major outlier where
a lot of nuts congregated. And the cops did the right thing.

They basically gave them a couple of city blocks for a few nights to burn off the steam.

Portland is a fucking HUGE city. Top 20 in the country I think. Saying the whole city was looted
and burned is just plain hysterical hyperbole.

And yes, their were isolated incidents in a lot of other cities too. Every city has a few assholes.
Again, so relatively small compared to the massive scope of the entire BLM movement.

Yet, some of you want to take BLM - which was a great reckoning for the nation - and
the relatively minuscule amount of rioting associated with it, and use that to excuse Trump
and his cronies from trying to steal a US election, including inciting a deadly riot at the US Capital?

Can you even try to take a second to see how fucked up that looks to those of us not in lock
step with MAGA and Trump?

@Donnie B Say what you will BUT...........it was the MSM (aka: Dems) that tirelessly fed AND stirred the fire and THAT is what the outrage was really about from you left nut whack jobs. Floyd was a career criminal and had a wrap sheet as long as my 18ft rod.

The world is FAR BETTER off without him. PLUS............he was going to die within hrs even if the cop DIDN'T even touch him...............fact.

How’s this; I think Trump’s a fucking moron and same goes for all the Qanon dipshits. Burning down fucking buildings, looting and destroying primarily black communities was one of the dumbest fucking things I’ve ever witnessed in my 40 years on this planet. Absolutely nothing was gained from that. Nothing. All that’s left is black business owners who found a way to gain some footing in this country who now have nothing but debt and broken dreams.

I love Boston for a myriad of reasons, love the people, but the fucking rioting after a sports team won a game? Fucking stupid.

Fortunately, down here in South Florida the legitimate protesters stood between the rioters and the businesses and did not allow them to destroy them. Nor were our police restrained in stopping anyone from damaging what they do not own.

This brought the country no where. Black lives are not any more safe now than they were before these riots started. All this did was create contempt from those who lost what they busted their asses for and gave your opposing team all that much more ammo to condemn the movement. And that’s not to mention all the bullshit the “leaders” within the BLM movement got caught with when buying fuckin’ cars and mansions with the donated money, making them just as bad as all the politicians and system they tell their followers to fight against.

Black lives are not any more safe now than they were before these riots started.

No, but police departments all across the country got the message. As did courts.
Cops are finally getting prosecuted when they kill people for stupid reasons.
That blue line of silence also took a beating in the process.

Takes baby steps in a country of 300+ million people.

Remember Detroit in 1968 when the Tigers won the series?

The one that blew my mind the most was in 2011 the Bruins beat the Canucks for the Cup.

VANCOUVER!?!?!

Pro sports fanaticism is one area in which I profoundly differ with the opinion of Hunter Thompson

I think that professional sports, and their subcultures, and the satellite industries that have sprung up around them (especially gambling),
have had a pernicious and destructive effect on mass culture in the USA

Illegal violent “demonstrations”? Get a few black Dodge Challengers to the scene. Maybe just pointing it at the crowd while sitting and revving it will put a damper on things.
