I see your point but I disagree. Lots of professionals and industrialists as well as just rich damn people are leaving California and New York for financial reasons. Too much tax and government overreach. There are people on this forum who have done the same. Business owners. You’re kinda reaching with the redneck/hillbilly stereotype of these areas. I have spent a lot of time in New England….as well as other areas of the country…the south does not have a monopoly on rednecks…. And I’m not specifically saying whites only. People are people…

If you want to pull up dead areas pull up Matewan or better yet Thurmond. These are the results of this countries energy policies over the years. Really sad places. Per Capita, people are leaving Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas's Red River region, West Virginia, Alabama, Georgia , Ohio, Indiana, Nebraska and other Red States at a far more percentage wise, than California .
It's called the " Brain Drain", and it is especially evident, the fact that it is proven by the color of the Political map.

Jerry Springer Trailer Trash tend to lay decadent in their Red State cesspool.... the smarter ones move to New York State, Massachusetts, Connecticut, California, Illinois or the extreme North East .

The ones that are leaving California are hicks in extreme Northern California ( their rural Idaho stupid ), the High Desert Region ( rural Arizona / Breaking Bad stupid ) and Central California ( Midwestern / Southern stupid ).
Those idiots live a grifter life style, like Devon Nunes's Dairy/ Farm Subsity / Grifter or poster children and voted most likely to wear a MAGA hat or appear as a Jerry Springer guest .... don't worry ya'll, dey is just like ya .... but too stupid fir Califawneaw .

Last week, Good Morning America was just stating how 340,000 have left CA and 300,000 have left NY since 2021?
Partly because of how these two states handled Covid. Taxation among other reasons.

I remember in the 90's not being able to get a job in NY. There are more jobs available today and you cant even get in one applicant...

Rednecks = South of the Virginia’s
White Trash = North of the Virginia’s

Growing up in Maine and then living in Florida for the last 20 years, I’ve seen first hand the difference between a traditional southern redneck and northern white trash. They like to claim they’re rednecks up north, but they don’t have the spirit of actual rednecks in the south.

Going mudding is a redneck hobby down here, up in New England it’s what happens when your car is a run down piece of shit because Natty Ice is more important than car repairs and getting stuck in the mud when the snow melts so you have to make your kids get out and push while you bitch at them that it’s their fault you don’t have money to fix the car and if they weren’t in the backseat to begin with, you wouldn’t have gotten stuck.
