Ok let the comments roll in! I know someone is going to comment about another cash grab. I agree. it is.

I am an EVH Fanboy-

That said, I probably won't be getting one of these. If I grab a relic, it will be the stripe series. These are pretty cool looking though

They also just added the Star Series

They look cool, but my issue is that the original guitar was ash, not basswood. Fender is already building ash body guitars... can't they allow EVH to use some of the wood? lol
yep.. I am sure they use the basswood to keep production costs down, Joel. either way I see these selling well.

I hear you. I haven't had any luck with basswood guitars (without a maple top). They tended to sound a bit too rounded in the lows and highs to my ears. Kind of on the smooth side, regardless of pickup choice. I know that every guitar is different and this might not be true of basswood in all cases, but that has definitely been my experience.

I've owned a few Palermo PG3 guitars, which are basically the franky without the stripes. Always northern ash and they have all sounded more aggressive than the striped basswood guitars I've owned or played. The northern ash bodies on those Palermos seem super dense to me (not necessarily heavy in my experience, but very hard, making it more difficult to adjust screws for the spring claw or the floyd bridge. It never bothered me though as they have all sounded killer).

I think Fender's issue is the availability of Swamp Ash, not the heavy and bright sounding Northern Ash that the original Frankie body is made of.

I think the heel adjustment ring looks killer on these guitars and I bet work great . I don't like the "Kill Switch" though.

I'm glad they're releasing the Frankies without the stripes. I've played a few and they're surprisingly good guitars. They play and sound way better than you'd expect for a "gimmick" guitar. The solid colors make them less "I'm such an Eddie fanboy, look at how great I am at cosplaying Eddie, isn't Eddie just dreamy you guys" and more of something that can be taken seriously.

Not the biggest fan of the black or the red but the white one looks great.

Also, did anybody notice this new hottness on the site? I've never considered how a Wolfgang might look in gold, but wow.

I never liked the look of Les Paul gold tops, but I bought a gold top Peavey Wolfgang because I liked the look of it. That looks great with the gold headstock!
