NGD! Adam Jones Standard

Is this a new trend from Gibson? Curious if anyone else here has one and how the frets are?
Love the guitar, enjoy.

My 2023 59 Murphy Lab has much lower frets than my 2018 Standard. Both are "medium Jumbo", but they are definitely not the same size. I get on fine with both of them. I probably prefer the ones on my 2018. But love the Jumbos on my Vivian Campbell the best. Had to sell a 58 with medium talls (too bumpy for my taste, though it bends and plays individual notes great).

Bottom line, I wish my 59's were a hair taller, but they work just fine.

Had them measured and they probably started out at 0.045 high and after pleking got to 0.038

I was told this (0.045 hieght) is what comes on 59s and Jescar also seems to say its standard on Custom Shops. Maybe that is what they used on the Adam Jones model.

I wish Gibson would say which exact wire was used.

Thanks! Bending the strings is what’s bothering me because my finger tip drags on the board. My JC Wino frets are similar but still wider and a tad taller.

I’ll give some time. It’s setup awesome, the lowest string height I’ve ever experienced with absolutely no buzzing - just that made me pretty stoked about the guitar…also the vintage silver paint looks killer in person!

The bending at first bugged me too, that's how I noticed it was different. Once my luthier told me it was standard 59 frets and not some QC issue, it got out of my head and I've been able to get used to it. Plus power chords finger sliding is smooth as ice. Still prefer the happy medium of jumbo frets. But again I could adjust to these.

So give it some time (at least within any return window).

Same here. It does have the lowest action without buzz of any guitar I have. It does have fairly small frets. And thanks to some negative comments I did find a few imperfections in the clear around the neck joint on the binding. Good thing I bought it to play and not display.

Hey, wasn't trying to be negative. If that was all that was wrong with the 2 I grabbed, I still have em. They were jacked up in major ways.
Enjoy and congrats!!!! Glad you found a good one.

Who the fuck is Adam Jones?

Duh, he's Mike's brother.

I’ll also mention the case is super nice. Extremely well built new design with a very high end feel. Kudos to Gibson on that, if any of you guys need a case I’d highly recommend grabbing one of the new black ones.

I noticed the same smaller fret thing on both a new Mustaine V and a used Iommi SG Special I grabbed... the frets sure seem a lot smaller than the medium jumbo's I've had on Gibson's in the past. My '94 SG with well worn frets probably has more fret height on it than the two new Gibsons.

Also, congrats and great score... I love the look of those Adam Jones standards, and an 8.5lb LP that sounds great is a dream.

Sounds like it’s the new trend, I wonder why. I can’t image they’re saving a whole lot of money by doing this but possibly. Or maybe it’s to build them closer to originals.

I just had to double check the specs on both to make sure they were supposed to be medium jumbos.. they are. They must be trying to be more "original", or the plek machine is hungry.
