Frankenstrat ( China Special ) Quality coming up

So most of us are used to the usual quality of chinese guitars that require adjustments or extensive repairs. Apparently the quality is coming up on these and this guy was left really impressed by this Ali Express special. More expensive than the usual but way more attention to detail in terms of body, paint, relic, neck finish, fretwork, and setup. I go back and forth on whether or not I want a relic. 2+K CAD for an EVH model or 500$ CAD for this thing. I could be convinced given the review.. might just scratch that itch for some of you.

 
Looked at his channel. He's one of those YT humps that will hype up low budget guitars as better than any similar guitar like it which costs $2000 more. I wouldn't take anything he says to be meaningful. Probably wouldn't piss on his teeth if his gums were on fire either.
 
I'd just put a partscaster together and save myself the embarrassment 6 months later when the knockoff neck is warped.
 
There are millions of these things out there and I think most are partcasters that people put together . If I built one it would be made of Northern hard Ash not Basswood .

Although the people who buy the EVH models rave about them I think they're grossly overpriced .
 
not a frankenstrat, but I took a chance on an aliexpress knockoff, and it was better than I expected for under/around $300 shipped. new strings, minor setup and intonation was all it needed.

Another under/around $300 aliexpress guitar wasn't as good, going to have to refin the body top; the guitar plays well (setup/intonation) but there's finish damage under the clearcoat. Probably going to do the kyrlon/rustoleum + clear gloss approach eventually.
 
I bought a aliexpress chibson les paul custom. It wasn't bad but I wouldn't do it again. By the time you replaced the pickups, pots, switches, nut, tuners, etc I could have bought something better without needing all the upgrades. I did the setup and fret work myself also. It was a good guitar to learn how to work on though.
 
I suppose you fellas could be right BUT this certainly points to the quality coming up on these if they are paying attention to setup. Anyway, I do agree that visually there is a slight difference between this and the EVH model but it might just be imagination seeing the price tag difference.... enough small details differ to make it not as cool.

You don't have any idea there is any actual quality work on the guitar -- that's only what the guy is saying. He could be handing a piece of shit and you'd have no way of knowing. And if you look at his other videos he's big on cheap guitars, his idea of quality might be your idea of Kwality with a capital K.

It doesn't point to anything other than he hooked you with rhetoric, a clickbait tile, and got you to click on his channel. "Over one million views" or whatever. Doesn't matter that every million one of them was looking at a piece of shit.

I mean, if you super love EVH but don't want to drop retarded money on a real one I get it

Locke guitars and KnE guitars are just two out of many businesses that make outstanding bodies and necks for EVH replica's . I would buy a body and neck from an outfit I knew had very good quality before I'd purchase a guitar from aliexpress but to each their own. If the person purchasing it is happy that's all that matters.`

Locke makes some great stuff. I have two guitars made with their parts. They matched a neck I sent them and it feels identical.

You can't generalize about the guitars as if aliexpress were a brand; it's just an online marketplace.
There isn't just one production stream - there are dozens of factories churning out thousands of guitars a week.
They're made to order for a hundred or more different sellers, each with an online store of their own selling on aliexpress.

Some guitars can be surprisingly good - Epiphone quality, but cheaper. I figure those are a very small minority though.
Most are about the level the quality you'd expect in a cut-rate Chinese guitar.
And some are truly awful, with sellers that change their store name every couple of months.

The Chinese factories are perfectly capable of building great guitars but they build to spec.
If a store specifies high build quality, that's what the factories deliver.
Many stores specify they want guitars for the lowest possible cost.
In those cases the quality control is crummy and the parts used are the cheapest available.

Those who receive one of the crummy ones will not even get their two hundred bucks worth.
The lucky few who receive one of the good ones can a crazy deal on a decent guitar.
It all depends on which seller you choose. And the feedback ratings are manipulated, so they're not to be trusted.*

If you don't get a recommendation from somebody who's already bought from a good seller, then it's a crapshoot.
And the odds of getting a decent guitar are not good.


*Ratings at eBay get manipulated that way too: coupla years ago I saw an Epiphone Firebird truss rod cover listed for $826.
The seller claimed to have sold nearly a hundred of them at that price, with great feedback ratings.
I bookmarked the link for chuckles, but the page is long gone now and the Wayback Machine didn't archive it.

Too funny, that vid popped up in my feed last night and I fell asleep watching it. I woke up this morning to this being in my feed-



This guy is a fucking moron. Doesn't show any proof that Fender reached out to him and then all the dumb fucking shit he says about Fender stealing the idea of Eddie, how Fender drove up his views and gave him thousands of subscribers over night....

If you go back in his feed, he was doing BB gun/airsoft reviews before his channel went to entirely AliExpress reviews.
