Wanted to try out MCP pickups but wondering if anyone has ordered from them recently. I contacted Wade about lead times but haven’t heard anything back.
Wanted to try out a set of Angel Dust pickups in my LPC, but wanted to get some info from anyone that’s ordered from them recently.

I wouldn’t be asking about lead times but rather how long to actually acknowledge your order. I tried twice, heard nothing for months, and filed a claim on both. Too many good pups out there made by people who actually know what customer service means.

MCPs are great pickups. But, Scott’s Tone Nerd pups are easily just as good if not better to my ears. Less expensive, and Scott will respond very fast. My experience with MCPs include Afwayu, Angel Dust, Detroiter and the Solution.
How did you feel about the Solution vs. The Afwayu?

I didn’t care for the Solution. Afwayu went back in immediately. The Solution was the only MCP that I didn’t like. It’s been awhile so I can’t remember specifics but it didn’t last long.

Variable. I ordered a couple pickups last December and they showed up about a month later. I ordered another one in late January and it took 9 weeks or so. The last time I ordered before that was a few years ago and it took about 3 months for them to arrive.

I have never received an order confirmation or any comms after order until notice of shipping, the lack of comms can be unnerving but they've always arrived...

+1 Love the Detroiter in my SG.
It's nothing Scott can't duplicate or improve on, and in a timely manner, with great communication.

Motor City description of the Angel Dust:

The Angel Dust Humbucker provides a rich, deep tone that demands the very best from the player. Your rewards are great detail and harmonically rich overtones with presence and clarity.
Tight and focused lows and articulate, rich highs are enough to give you a cold chill. Hand-wound with plain enamel coil wire, powered with an Alnico 5 Vintage Cut magnet, and assembled with a proper gauge nickel/silver baseplate, the Angel Dust retains rich midrange snarl and a pronounced upper-mid presence. Sensitivity and rich articulation are achieved by great magnetic properties and sustained with a unique character; great, organic properties and overtones in a rich top end . Absolutely wicked scatter wound for sound wirh 14.5k DC resistance.

Scott could probably suggest one of his pickups based on this description that would likely make you happy.

the low end on the Afwayu Kinda reminds me of the SD Custom. it's big but tight. The Solution i've heard is supposed to have the same low end but be more compressed & tighter.

He makes good pickups, but there is better stuff out there that you can get in a timely manner with less BS.

Scott, Jim Wagner, etc

They all make superior pickups and will respond to messages/emails/orders this century, like an actual business interested in having customers

The Solution I had did not have the same tight lows, in that particular guitar anyway. It was hotter but the Afwayu bigger, tighter to my ears

I will never order anything ever again from any “company” whose lead times can be more accurately described as lead eras. E.g, “ well, I placed my deposit two Presidents ago”, etc. I know you are with me 100% on this stance good buddy! :D

How do they feel? Any have that tight and touch sensitive feel that black belts and 2nd deg black belts have? That are lower output and have that tight and articulate sound?

They do; although I have his higher output offerings atm. He's working on some lower 8-9k PAF types I believe. I'd think the lower K versions will feel the same as his other higher output pups.

Thanks guys, really appreciate all the comments and suggestions!

Nice, haven't heard of Tone Nerd but ill check it out.
What did you think about the Angel Dust pickups compared to the other ones?

I think you’ll like the feel as they’re tight and fast (especially the Roxy and Sunset models), more so than I remember those MCP’s being, but it’s been a while. I always thought MCP’s were a little overrated honestly

I think most guys define touch sensitive differently than me as I think that’s more about receptivity to expressive nuance’s in one’s playing and that’s where I’d really only use vintage pickups. Not something that’s there much really in current made pickups or most very hot pickups of any era IME that homogenize things much more

I haven’t really come across any post-‘70’s low output (DC) pickups that are imo great choices if one wants something very tight and crisp, but with equally good tone behind it

I purposely don’t collect any money until I’m ready to ship. That way, someone could accuse me of being slow, but never of holding their money hostage

Call me spoiled when I can PM Scott right here, and get the order in process.

He's upfront about everything and communication is beyond top notch.

Granted he's had what I've wanted to try but for me at least, he's got pretty much all the humbucker choices covered, just let him know what you are looking for. I really don't see myself buying pups from anyone else at this point.
