How about guitar duels?

How about we have no backing track, no effects pedals allowed, playing totally clean, straight into an amp and play solo guitar making sure you play the bassline, the rhythm guitar and the melody at the same time.
Thumb picker asking others about comping. Who could've seen that coming

Comping (as I understand it) is more like rhythm guitar in jazz - so hit the bass note and the chord and slightly mute it (sometimes) but comping doesn't worry about the melody because it's for accompaniment.

I know you mean it in the sense of playing chord melodies with a moving bass line. Feel free to post a clip if you're not too estrogenic

Thanks mate. There aren't very many thumbpickers in my neck of the woods so it's a bit esoteric where I live. Lots of them in Kentucky and Tennessee though...
Will reconsider my language I use when talking to you from now on :salute:

:ROFLMAO: I read that as estrogenic at first.

There aren't very many electric guitarists using thumbpicks any longer, anywhere. Pretty rare.

But greetings to my brother of the the mighty thumbpick. You are in good company although I prefer to add a National NP-2 to the mix for my index finger. Will never go back to flatpicking again.

I'm somewhat new to the guitar world. I started about the time I joined here. It is just a hobby. I embarrass myself enough around here with my playing but I did one over a backing track. It was to a Killswitch Engage riff. Pretty much the opposite of what you do. Cheers.
I've checked your YT channel. Nothing about your playing is embarrassing in any way! :m17:
