Dimarzio SD for edge of breakup/light od?

Do they get good sounds? Most of the youtube vids I dug up demo the heavier sounds. Plugged straight into a loud twin or bassman for playing some blues and the like? Looking to maybe branch about beyond my usual low output 57/490's and was looking at the Dimarzio SD and SD II stuff. Any input would be swell.
 
I have 2 in my 80 the Paul
Been in there since a few months after i bought it new
I play clean and semi clean .

They can really do it all.
Blusey to over the top rock.

I lean on the neck and middle for blues.

Bridge for rock.

Responses well to vol and tone pot reduction

So you're just running two of the standard SD's, not the II or III version in the neck? .
 
What guitar? I like the at-1 in strats, but might be too fat for les pauls.

2 1980 regular supers with 3 way switching

i dont think the variations were made back then

they read out about 13.5K ohm

many of the 70s Japanese copies came this way

500k ohms pots? I figure worst case scenario I can swap some Alnico 5's in there if they are too harsh or aggressive. Pretty much any blues player using humbuckers seems to use PAF type. They are a good sound but I am looking for a little more personalized or distinct tone. Planning on using an LP as a test bed since pickup swaps are substantially easier than an ES.
 
I have one on a cheaper guitar. It sounds greats but despite the name they are pretty vintage-ish pickups compared to high output modern "distortion" ones.

500K? no no not for me. im blues guy and like the darker tones
im at 300/300 with .047 bridge cap and a .005 neck
have those in all my HB guitars except for my SA2200 and only because its too much of a pain in the ass to swap
but actually they sound good in there

250/250 for strats and teles with .022 caps

I had 300's in my last semi hollow and when I switched them to 500's it def opened up the sound a little more. They were linear pots, which required a finer adjustment hand than the audio taper pots.

I appreciate all your feedback Mach 1, super helpful and thanks. I'm looking at a few pickups that are off the blues beaten path so it's great ot hear some first hand experience with these.
