This popped up locally on FB Marketplace… and after working all day it ended up in the back of my truck. ‘83 2204 with 6550s, recently recapped. It’s pretty minty. The guy had the cab to go with it… he’s owned both for 20 years, just had pulled the G12-65’s out to put in another cabinet for a while. They are back in where they belong now.

I now get why y’all say just get an older Marshall and boost it.

Well here’s the bottom line here. With that combination and a LP custom you truly have it all there. Not sure of your skill set as you might have to fine tune the volume knob usage but you do have it all!!!!

Nice score and the G12-65's are icing on the cake. Killer looking LPC too. What year is it?
Thanks… it’s an ‘87. Rode hard and put away wet, but killer guitar. Also loaded with a couple of Tonenerd Pickups (Psykes and something Scott wound to balance with it and have two rows of screw poles).

Right now an SD1 or a Maxon OD808. Still need to try my Koko boost and a few others I have laying around. Definitely open to suggestions!
Those should keep you in tone heaven for awhile. Level and tone up, gain below 9:00--perfection. Congrats!

Happy new amp day! Looks like a sick rig you got there!

I had a Plexi RI with 6550's for a long time, those are beastly tubes and reliable as a tank too. At the time I ran chinese tubes in them cause they would breakup faster and were a little warmer when I had to keep a lid on half stack volume, lol. The Russian tubes stayed cleaner a lot further into the dial from what I recall. Not sure what's even available now since it's been a few years. The big clean, 3-D sound. Tight as a drum. Was a demanding amp to play but rewarding. What a killer score man, congrats!

So we don't get the down low on what it cost ya? I'll set the over/under at 2k. Any takers?

It's got JJ's all around right now. I will probably look at swapping them out of the preamp at some point. I'm not sure who makes a good 6550 these days though.

It was 2k... not a steal but a good price IMO for a very clean stock well maintained 2204 with the matching 800 cab and a second Dean Markley cab (that the 65's were in initially). The Dean Markley has a Jensen C12K?, chinese V30, and two Dean Markley speakers in it now.
