The Kerry King band unveils logo… and Paul Bostaph is on board

Why are some of you raggin' on Bostaph? I'm a drummer (and a guitar player) and let me tell you, Paul Bostaph is an incredible drummer. Listen to Exodus "Shovel headed Kill Machine". If you still think he sucks after listening to that record, you're high.

I didn’t like Repentless though, it almost sounds like a different drummer. Very simplistic, like the early Testament stuff, which I thought dragged that very promising band down.

I don't think anyone has much against him, or disrespects him. It's more about how his playing fits into Slayer's style music.

I dig Bostaph. I think his drumming with Slayer was excellent. It was the songs that started to bore me especially after KK became the predominant music writer. Also Tom became Less dynamic in his vocals, more screaming in the later years, which also got a little old for me.
it reads more like KK just waited the requisite mourning period for Slayer and then is basically doing Slayer, without Tom, under his name. Which I respect him for not using the Slayer name without Tom. This would be more interesting to me if the people he was going to do it with, were new to the Slayer camp.
But I understand KK wanting to stay in his comfort zone and basically keep going with a Slayer sound because he never wanted Slayer to end.

too little too late from the guy in slayer that we all collectively make fun of for being a douche, and throwing tons of wild, out of key, kahler bombs in all his solos.

wait...its not going to really be called The Kerry King Band is it?
He is a douche. Total douche, I can't stand him.

I loved me some Slayer, saw them live several times, but I cannot, and never could, stand Kerry King. Is an arrogant dickhead.

I don’t get the hate for him. I’ve never seen an interview or captured moment of him being a douche. He’s a Blunt guy in interviews and can be opinionated but I’ve never seen him be what I consider a douche or asshole. I’ve seen him be pretty self effacing a few times. Met him briefly at NAMM in the 90’s, was very cordial and watched him interact with fans and even if he was talking to an industry person, he never acted anything but cool with fans who would approach and possibly be interrupting him etc. Now a lot has been said about his part in Lombardo coming and going in a negative light from a money and business perspective but there’s three sides to every story and we don’t really know these people and how they are behind the scenes, which includes Dave and Kerry both. I’m not a Kerry cheerleader, just never got the disdain towards him.

Walks into the meeting…..”Hi, my name is Trevor and I like Kerry King solo’s”

IMO most negatives on him are just people repeating what they've heard on the internet about him based-on what other people heard on the internet about him, based-on ,,,,,,,,,repeat, repeat.

He never came across to me as a dick, just never thought he was that cool either lol

The things I've heard weren't word of mouth, they were directly out of his. He's like a short, fat little Dave Mustaine, with a God complex.

Well that is fair. Most probably have never met him, but it's good to at least have first hand accounts to go on.

How about this? In just 2 sentences he informs us that guitar heroes existed before him, he became one, and there have been none after him. Pfffft, lol, like there’s not a hundred players that came after him that wipe the floor with his ass.

And while we’re on the topic, dude made some great, innovative music from the early 80’s to the mid 90’s but everything after Divine Intervention is soooo boring, it has no edge, it’s a chore to sit through any of their later stuff.

“Then there was Slayer, there was Metallica, there was Exodus – again a wave of people to whom, if I was a kid, I would aspire to be that guy. I don’t think that exists anymore. The people who were there are still there.

Imo he hardly referred to himself as a guitar hero, or likened his talents to that of his heroes, and he’s correct in what he said. All those guys were OG’s and huge influences on kids during the birth of the thrash scene, myself included.
Like him or not, Slayer were a force of nature, especially live, and he was up there blazing a trail. I’ve always been a Hanneman guy, but KK was still 50% of a very formidable thrash duo and has earned every right to acknowledge that.

Totally agree that everything went increasingly downhill after DI, especially Araya’s vocals. He went from one of the best in the game to constantly screaming like Sam Kinison with a hot poker up his ass.

speaking for myself, as a kid I thought he was cool, but as I grew older, he seemed too hell bent on projecting that he's soooo metal.

There was this sound check footage from 2017 in the afternoon in Raleigh, NC (it seems the YT video has been deleted now), where Gary Holt is chillin', cargo shorts, flip-flops, and does his thing. Same with Tom. But Mr. KK, he's in full 'battle dress' with his 40lbs of heavy chains, leather pants, etc.
I sorta feel the same about Zakk Wylde. When you're trying so hard to look 'badass', it kinda works against you. Insert Tywinn Lannister-quote...

I mean, take Corpsegrinder from Cannibal Corpse; the dude's a beast and he has no problem showing videos from him, shopping for girl-LEGO at a Target, looking for clearance deals and stuff. :p Being 'metal' is so much more than 'look at me, (trying to) be(ing) tough, blabla".

zakk became likeable again after he sobered up. hes got a goofy sense of humor that is very endearing.
He acted like a jackass when he tried to be like dime and make drinking a part of his persona/image. only dime could pull off being a total alkie but someone who you'd also never want to sober up. :ROFLMAO:
