I typically use my guitar pro like app. Tab out guitar, drums, and bass. Import my drums to superior drummer, and bass to euro bass. Then I track guitars. Works real well for hammering out tracks quickly. Drums are sweet but the bass was a game changer for me especially when things get chaotic on drums. Just edit my presets to sound more realistic than the stock settings and wala.

Zen….”This riff idea took about 30mins from inception to (semi) completion. Pretty boring with no lead guitar or vocal... but it's the beginnings of a song, sounds fine and will happily sit on a HDD unfinished for years to come”

Oh how I can relate to that…?

To me getting a tone is what inspires the riff idea idea. For me doing a D.I. with basic sounds in parallel and re-amping later is counter intuitive to what inspires the initial idea for me. But I’m in no hurry these days to add to the 80 odd files I have hanging around from my creative spurt from 95-2002…?

This is why I have so much gear. I like waking up in the morning, choosing any random guitar, amp, speaker, and mic and seeing what comes out when I start jamming. I hear something cool and all I do hits hit record. I could never be a one guitar/rig dude
