He had an interesting and then kind of crazy life. And I thought Glocks were around in WWII  :(

I always hated the Glock ergonomics. Never owned one but they are a decent quality, usable gun for a reasonable price. No doubt they have saved a lot of lives. RIP.

The 48 and 43x are a fun gun to handle if you have not already. I love how slim and sleek they are. I have a 48.

I haven't tried those. I was tempted to get a G17 just because doesn't everyone have one and it would make a good beater to carry while I'm chainsawing or doing other activities out the back. Personally when the chips are down I'd rather buy an all steel gun. CZ or Tanfoglio. Some of the polymer CZ's are major win. I'm not a big striker fired fan and prefer a standard hammer/safety.

SIG would be a great option for you checking the boxes you want. Particularly, the duty proven P226.

Those are great pistols.

About four or five years ago I was looking to grab the firs SIGt legion or Beretta 92 M9A3 locally on armslist that I saw cause they were for sale everywhere when a Stock III Tanfog popped up. Kind of a base model you could build into a race gun. I had really been wanting a Shadow II but the money was a little beyond my reach and I wasn't finding them locally. The stock III delivers pretty much everything the Shadow II offers and I saved a bunch of money. I got sold on that Shadow II/Tanfoglio grip frame, it's really comfortable. I ordered some mag extensions from Ben Stoeger so I have 22+1 capacity. Also threw some LOK grips and a Streamlight TLR on there but now it's a little too nice for a beater gun, lol.

Beretta 92 is another duty proven platform base. I have a few of them.

I think for a beater while chainsawing, a G43x would be perfect. Next time you are window shopping, at least put one in your hand.

No way I'm opening that. I can tell by source that I won't like it

Gaston Glock was a very interesting dude. And he absolutely changed the handgun world.

That said, as much as I want to love a Glock I can't find one with a comfortable grip angle. And I've tried believe me. I do know some crayon eaters who have Shadow System clones with 1911 grip modules on them. They're nice. They aren't Glocks though.

He put several young ladies through college that were working at the Gold Club in Atlanta too…

This is he main reason why I never bought one. It feels like two blocks jammed together at a strange angle, I also am disinclined to buy striker fired and plastic frames, I just don't like them the way I hate digital gear though after some years and trying quite a few pistols there are some sweet polymer guns out there, it can't be denied....FN, for example.

I went out specifically to buy a Glock. Because they are exceptional handguns. Reliable doesn't even cover it. They are bombproof. I must have held and shot 15 Glocks. Every one I could find. I ended up buying an XD Mod 2 4" .45 ACP. That was my very first polymer striker gun. I always favored 1911s in .45 ACP. I was like you, I didn't think much of plastic guns. I don't feel that way anymore. Yeah the triggers aren't super the way my 1911s are, but those 1911s are really heavy, don't hold much ammo and are not at all designed for concealed carry really. I mean you can do it successfully. Like anything else it takes lots of training.

Anyway, H&K was a game changer for me. The VP9 line is everything I want in carry pistols. IWI Masada Slim is on my radar currently. FN, Sig and S&W all make great CC guns too. Currently the best I have found for me is the new VP9SK with the direct mount Holosun SCS. Carried AIWB.
