The mission kicked off early early this morning with a successful launch, and successful separation from the ULA rocket. However a couple hours into the mission the propulsion systems had a malfunction, or "anomaly" as the official releases annoyingly calls it, which basically isn't allowing the unit to line up with the sun to recharge the batteries. It is already running very low on power. And with a scheduled moon landing date of February 23rd, it's obviously not looking good if they can't get it figured out.
It'll be a bummer if it doesn't work. It would be the first commercial vessel to ever land on the moon. However, a 2nd company, Intuitive Machines has a launch coming up on February 9th, which a scheduled moon landing date of February 22nd, so they may end up being the first private company to land on the moon anyways. Kind of cool enter an era of a space race between private companies instead of nations.

This seems to be the most current news story

looks like they are fucked

--"Astrobotic released a fourth update, saying it appears that a failure within the propulsion system is causing a critical loss of propellant.

The company says its team is working to try and stabilize this loss, "but given the situation, we have prioritized maximizing the science and data we can capture."

"We are currently assessing what alternative mission profiles may be feasible at this time," the statement says."--

The lander was in part designed by college students. what a kick in the nuts

Fake tho.

We lost the tech. A fin came off our rocket. Our freshwater condenser broke. The dog ate my homework. A one armed man sabotaged our launch. The flat earth prevented our solar panels from getting full sun. The alternator is out on the chevy and our crew is delayed. Our soundset design team is hungove this morning and late for the shoot today. Doesn't look like that landing will happen today boys but if we can sell the public on the idea that our company actually landed on the moon we'll know just how dumb our investors really are.

I wonder if NASA was like, "Okay fine, but don't get too crazy with it, folks are starting to ask questions."

"This pictures proves the landing was successful"

Yeah, that's all folks it's all real nothing more to see you can go home. So convincing.

They aren’t taking pictures to prove things to people.
