Not because I think it really matters, but because I love the minutiae of it, but I think it more comes down to the “ad hom” part of it than the choice of insult.
If someone accuses you of “swallowing loads” and you respond with calling them a whore in return, is the response “ad hom”?

I used to own and operate a music related web forum with an active and right leaning off topic section. My moderation style was pretty much this. I banned bots and spies. Pretty much left everything else to work it’s own self out.
