My neighbor does a bunch of work in villages in Africa and her favorite story to tell is about the time she went swimming with some of the kids. They were all jumping in having a great time, and she being fairly overweight, simple walked in to the water.

Government rebates for junk electric cars isn't self made in my view. At best he is an opportunist, no shame in that. He makes lots of claims of doing and building stuff that never materializes. Like his BS solar roof. It's unobtainium. Or his truck that years later, a few have oozed out of the factory. Smoke and mirrors IMO.
