Mistakes- I underpaid in 2022 according to them and owe $4,000+. BUT I think they have me confused with someone else: they list an "unreported" income from a railroad pension....i never worked for a RR in my life.
I'm hoping I can clear this up with a phone call but I envision hours on hold or in conversation with them.
Anyone been through this? My first time.

Witness protection program here.

No one ever calls me, or sends me any letters.

Probably some identity theft shit to scam welfare/gibs/votes.
Do you have a common name?

sounds like mistaken identity…lol… I had to deal with them twice in my life. First time I wound up having words with an agent but it was worked out. Second time was great. I was treated great and they were very accommodating and easy to work with.
Edit-they were easy to get ahold of also. I guess not to many people are waiting in line to speak to the IRS. But honestly dude…the last time I dealt with them I was shocked at how smooth it was. My advice is try to get someone on the phone that has a good attitude and is willing to listen and help…that’s key. You can tell when you get them on the phone. If you get someone that sounds miserable-make an excuse and hang up and call back later.

You're going to have to call them. And that will lead to another phone call and seemingly endless phone calls and bullshit. The only way to avoid that is to pay someone else to do it for you unfortunately.

We got a letter that said we didn't pay our taxes. Sent them back a letter saying we paid our taxes in February and here's a copy of our bank transaction.

We get another letter that we didn't pay so we sent another letter.

We got another letter so I tried to call. 4 Hours later I get someone and they were like okay you did pay.

We get another letter saying we owe interest from not paying on time but it was sent to my brothers address in NC with my name on it. I called 4 times and got automatically hung up 4 times after being on hold for 1/2 hour each time. So I sent them a registered letter stating we paid in February and we dont need to pay interest.

We get another letter stating we owe interest for paying late. So we paid the interest amount hoping that they we will discover they screwed up and reimburse us that amount . It's been 2 months and nothing.

The IRS is majorly fucked up just like the FBI, DOJ and FEMA

How long ago was this? I'm dealing with them right now and it has been anything but smooth. It has been a bureaucratic nightmare and everyone I've managed to get a hold of is clueless. They've been sending me in circles, wait time is forever and then you get transferred to another department, wait time again, and then the person you finally reach says they can't help you. Correspondence has been cryptic and no one can explain. It's been ridiculous, a total joke.

Probably about 8 years ago now.

Be careful this isn't some scam - sounds like bullshit to me.

Don't contact the IRS from anything on the letter which could direct you to a fraudulent person. Contact them directly using the IRS' webpage that you search for on google.

Wow, almost exactly the same situation.

My tax accountant may have saved me; preparing to call IRS first thing today and expecting the worst, i got a call from him and set up an appointment for Thursday to review everything. My only hope was to talk to someone who could resolve the issue with the least amount of hassle, hope this is it.

Funny how the IRS can screw up, turn your life upside down for a while and you're lucky if you get a "oops, sorry"

Set up an appointment with your accountant or the IRS? Let us know how it goes!

I worked for the government for 22+ years…they even eat their own so don’t feel bad. They owe you money it takes forever. You owe them and they sieze your check until it’s paid.

They had a screw up on our shift differential. Where these shifts started at 04:00 we were supposed to get morning watch differential which is an extra 15% an hour till 08:00. Someone discovered that it was only supposed to be 04:00 to 06:00. They went back through old schedules and calculated the amounts of every swinging dick that worked those posts and calculated the difference between 4-6 and 4-8 and seized it from our checks with no notice. Some guys lived on that shift so they worked for free for a couple pay periods. Dirty motherfuckers. And it was the administration who fucked up. Oh well.
