I hear nothing but good things. My buddy outside of rig talk is interested in moving to high gain amps. I have never really done the prs thing. How do we feel about these amps?

I’ve never owned a MT100, but I used to have an MT-15 and have also owned a PRS Archon 25 and 50. Currently still own the Archon 25.

The PRS high gain is its own thing, I’d say kind of like a cross between a British and American voicing.

It’s very refined and smooth, more wet than dry. It does the Mesa roar, and there’s a bit of Marshall kerrang in it too. Not extremely compressed like say an Engl, not dry like a VHT, with the tilt towards the Engl side of things when it comes to playing ease. Lots of balls to the tone.

Cleans are fantastic, I held on to the Archon 25 because of that. One of the best cleans I’ve heard on an amp, I’d say. Glassy and crisp and sparkly.

I think the amp is great, I just don’t know if it needed the additional crunch channel, but hey, more options are always good.

That is how it is done

I haven’t owned or played one. But I have spoken to owners for a while in PMs deciding on one.

Consensus is that the clean and high gain channels are where it’s at. Not much use for the crunch. It’s a mix of Bogner and Mesa on the high gain channel. It’s more refined.

For the style of music I want to play, the raw aggressive nature of a dual rectifier suites my needs better and so I’ve decided against an MT100.

Yeah. I couldnt see myself buying one either. But the guy buying has no experience with high gain, so i am mostly just making sure it isnt going to catch on fire. He has done his own research. He is wanting to pair it with a mesa slant 2x12. I dont even know what a 2x12 is. Sounds like witch craft.

I briefly had an MT15 and it was a cool amp. Great clean channel and the gain character I would describe maybe like in between a 5150 and a Dual Rectifier. What I didn’t like about it was it was just too dark and smooth for me. Like you can run the presence wide open and turn the treble and mid knobs up and you’ll never get a certain kind of attack and bite that you can find in a 5150. I probably didn’t give it quite enough of a chance but I had other options and moved on.

I have heard Tremonti using the MT100 on some of these recent Creed show videos that are out there and it sounds awesome there at least. I don’t know, I’d give one a whirl for sure.

I've owned a lot a high gain amps and still have the MT100. It's an awesome sounding amp. It's lead channel is thick and has a lot of gain. It's darker or smoother on the top end and very crunchy in the low mids while still being tight in attack not needing a boost, the mid range is natural sounding and can run the mids up high without sounding odd or weird. So you just run the treble and presence a little higher then other amps to get the same results. Single notes sound big as chords I find. This amp has it's own voice and that is what I like about it, best way to describe it is in between a Bogner and rectifier. I can play this amp longer, louder then the other amps I own (not harsh sounding) and this channel is very addicting to play. This channel doesn't need a boost to stay tight, even with my drop tuned guitars, but it takes a boost very well. Overdrive channel is really different, not really a fan, it can be boxy in the mids and just kind of flat sounding - it's like a fender clean channel that is being overdriven, the eq controls don't do much at all. From the Dumble clips I've heard it sounds like that to me. The clean is awesome, it's really good for a high gainer. One of the better clean's I've heard.

I've had 2 issue's with this amp, a pre-amp tube went bad in the overdrive channel and had 2 of the power tubes redplate. PRS on both occasions covered both under warranty and were very quick to get me replacments for free and actually sent me an extra pre amp tube. The last time I had tube trouble with an amp with my Mesa I was having to purchase the tubes myself. I don't use the effect loop so I've never really had an issue with it but I know others have said they have with some noise from the loop, it sounds like PRS has fixed the issue and now offering old amps updated (for free) and new ones have been.

I'm not sure if it's a good thing or bad, but there really isn't extra tone shaping options other then the EQ and the amp doesn't have MIDI or anything like that.

He is also running a SLO II Synergy module along with the MT100. There are some fan shot videos with Tremonti walking them through his rig before soundcheck when the tour was starting up.

Would love to try one. My problem is that no matter what I get I always wind up going back to Mesa. Got in a tight spot and sold my tverb (like a dummy)… have a pv ultra, Windsor, and an impregnater vengeance. Want another rectifier. Got to have it.

He went from good Amps to kinda meh.

Have not actually played the MT-100, but definitely intrigued as I have yet to hear a bad clip or demo of this amp.

Very good amp for the price. Nice clean channel, I actually thought the crunch channel was pretty good too despite the honk, and the high gain channel was in a similar ball park to an Uber or Recto, but sounded and felt like an amp that was already boosted

When AB’ed with my keeper amps it didn’t have the same level of detail, clarity or tone or overall wow factor of the top tier amps or other amps close to that level and it starts to not sound as good if you turn it up too much, but it’s very well voiced, feels very good and for the price hard to rival. For that reason I returned the one I had

Interesting. Well, that might explain why his tone had more cut to it than I would have expected from the PRS amps.
