Racks still rule

set up my wdw config tonight and it was the first time using the mark III return as the dry amp into the 4 x12.

everything’s better with a 4x12 middle dry core and loved being able to use the III’s graphic eq to fine tune the dry. kinda makes me wish my boogie stereo 2:90 had stereo graphics.

and for inspiration. here’s a guy who knows rack gear, tone, and how to use a tri stereo chorus tone amazingly well:

programming and troubleshooting these types of rigs isn’t very glamorous but i love the wide palette of tones available at the press of a button once it’s up and running.

OG 2290 for the win. I refuse to be forced to let my old rack gear go just because....computers. I still have my old Rev7 and SPX990. I wish I still had my first gen eventide harmonizer! In the early 90s I would spend hours just tweaking parameters while my wife complained that I would rather spend time on my tone that listen to her bitch at me.

i have an eventide H3000 SE in the shop i’m hoping to reunite with in early 2025!
my korg DL8000r is also being serviced for new encoders. love the stereo choruses and delays in that box.

Nice 2290! I have never played the old rack version, but I got the 2290p today, and it was sounding great with my Synergy stereo setup tonight. I also have a SDE-3000D that sounds great.

I am liking these pedals because they are flexible and all that, and are also analog dry through. Seems like you cant get multi units anymore with analog dry through, and pulling in the mixer makes everything way more complicated.

i’ve used the sde vh pedal and it’s really great but i’m such a 2290 fan that it would be the one i’d pick for a pedalboard.

I like the dual delays the SDE can do. I am pretty new to both of them though, so it will take me a while to really learn them and see if I have a favorite. The 2290p definitely reminds me of my G Major 2 though, when running the delays and Chorus together.

I have a big rack with a mixer and all that, but I really dont use that many sounds, so am thinking about going in a smaller direction.

Lexicons are always +1.

I use 480L impulses while mixing music and it has that "professional" sound.

i ran a hybrid rack/pedal rig with one lonely gforce in it for years,



and more recently my friend put together a similar type rig with a lexi mpx-1 and all the pedal flavors of the month that sounds killer!!

spent the evening WDW plugged in to R2D2. fun!

the mackie is not hooked up to the rig but i’ve been using it to evaluate pedals with headphones and it’s a great thing to have for friendly jams and recording.

over the holidays i’ll try running a mic on the dry cab into the mackie mono and taking the stereo wet outputs from the rack DI into the mackie L/R for a mixdown clip.

i’d like to run the 2290, pcm80, and future H3000 balanced where possible.
i also have a rane sm26 so i shouldn’t run out of inputs!

to this day the best overall guitar tone i’ve heard live was Mr. 335 Larry Carlton using his WDW dumble rig, micing the dry cab with a mackie mixer, blending in lexicon and Roland fx and sending the wet outputs to a pair of JBL Eon powered speakers on stage as well as to the house.

i’m getting closer!
