The OG or Rev 2 (rev green) is the choice for me. I have now owned both the Uber Ultra and Rev Green. The Uber Ultra is no doubt tighter but it has a very filtered EQ notch to it on the higher frequencies and I could never dial it out. The Rev Green reminds me of a Dual Rectifier revf with the Bogner Sauce. I will say the clean channel is basically useless on the OG and Rev Green as there is a massive volume drop which was fixed in the Rev Blue and onward. The Rev Green has a more linear gain tapering on channel 2 while the OG is basically 0 to nuclear levels of gain between 0-3/10 gain levels.

Comparing the Rev Green and Uber Ultra. You can open the Uber Ultra a bit more with the density at 0 but nowhere near the openness of a Rev Green.

This 100%. The early ones were just far superior amps in sound and feel. The Rev C and D Recto's have the same issues with their clean channels as those Uber's. They improved it on the later revisions at the expense of the money channel being not as good. Terrible trade off

Your clips show what I experienced too when AB'ed. The Rev 1 is the fresh squeezed oj with all the delicious nuances and the UU was frozen, concentrated, pasteurized and stripped of all the pulp, freshness and what really it made it great in the first place, just maintaining the flavor still being orange. Really sterile/clinical. To me it was like the Uber flavor was still basically there, but not the overall Bogner flavor really of rich chewiness

Don't forget that Bogner was always tweaking stuff on the earlier revisions; you could a/b a few of them side by side and they could each sound vastly different. That being said, the early Rev2 I have is the nastiest amp I've ever played. Thick, juicy, hairy, pissed off, room filling 3d filth that I can't get out of any other amp. Thought the Ultra would do that and more, but it's a little too "modern" sounding; Like others have said, it's got an upper mids thing going on that definitely cuts through better, but just wasn't my thing. Ultra is definitely better if you're into modern metal or anything really technical. But for brutal detuned chugs, the OG cannot be beat.

I had one that sounded awesome, and convinced a friend(@wtfMagH8U) to try one. At first he was impressed. I moved the head one day, and accidentally moved the controls, and couldn't seem to get it back. Could have been mental, lol. My buddy ended up nicknaming his "fuck that amp", as he was using it live, and ran into the same experience. I would have taken pictures if I knew better. I ended up shipping it to another friend on here, @WizardSouth-JP , and it got burned up in a UPS train derailment.

These days, I wonder if it was just very sensitive to input voltage, as my location can see voltage swings between 117 to 126V any time of day. I regulate now, and can hear/feel the difference.

Wow, hmmmm, you all got me thinking more about the Ultra. I had a Rev Blue for about 10 years and slowly fell off as I tried other amps until I sold it about 2 years ago. That kind of put me off the Uber and didn’t really look into them since. This thread has me looking close at the Ultra.

I assume OG = Original GOAT (greatest of all time)? As in the first version is the greatest?

I recall the Twin Jet having plenty of low end and beef. No complaints there. It’s been admittedly over a decade now since I last tried it, so I could have a different opinion now for sure, but I jokingly called it that more for I remember the tone being not as raw/organic, gritty or aggressive as I like, too smooth/generic/bland in character from what I remember, but I’d need to play it again. I’d agree that I wish the earlier Ubers had that same ch1 than their afterthought clean channels

Worth getting. I’d predict similar results comparatively to what MrWoodchuck got in his comparo clip posted earlier here. I suck at recording, but had basically the same results as him when I tried, maybe even a bit more contrast than he got, might be since his is a Rev 2, not sure since I’m less familiar with Rev 2’s

I think he posted his after he sold the ultra which does show them dialed differently, but not attempted to sound the same... if that makes sense. I think going back and forth having them in the room same time especially having an amp switcher changes things dramatically. Especially if you have someone else switching back and forth for you with the volume equalized lol

When I did my take on them I both compared them trying to sound close to each other as well as just what I felt made them sound to me the best they could and I still got very similar results to MrWoodchuck. Not identical, but very similar and of course I did a real apple to apples comparison in the same room and all. Like him, I just felt the amp inherently sounded for my taste too filtered, synthetic, it just lacked for me richness to the tone the way the first version and most Bogner’s in general have. It was sorta almost like Omega or KSR tried to make an Uber rather Bogner with the ultra imo. Those guys also make amps I find filtered and cardboardy sounding. I like really brutal tones like you do too, but to me those types of amps I don’t interpret as being the most most brutal or aggressive sounds due to those qualities I find undesirable to my ears. If anything I feel it takes away from that. I find the Rev 1 to be a truly brutal amp to me at least

Yeah I had it sold but the Uber ultra was on Uber mode in that clip on both the presence and the gain mode on channel 2. Every clip I have heard past that even as recent as Mishas Instagram post last week has the filtered sound to it. It's the only amp I haven't vibed with in 3 years and I love almost everything Bogner.

Same for me. It didn’t really sound or feel like a Bogner to me. It was almost like a brand like KSR or Omega tried to do their take on an Uber with the more modern filtered flavor. The Snorkler on the other hand I really love. That’s 10/10 what the signature Bogner chewy, rich low mid sound is to me. One of my top 4 or 5 currently of high gainers. Not the biggest sounding 50w as its main weakness imo, but the sound and feel is just so good!!

I have had all of the Ubers and several of different versions. The 6L6 Ultra is the best of all of them for me. I go back to the 6550 proto and first versions with 6550s and then multiples of every version since. For an overall versatile killer Uber, nothing beats the Ultra to me. I also love the Snorkler and Goldfinger Superlead.

I had a twin jet. I loved it, but it was very Low Mid dominant, as I remember, and very smooth. The UU hits harder and has a more modern voicing yet more raw. I really like the voicing of the amp. I am ok with some cardboard, I suppose.

The 6l6 is the one I had too, best amp I've ever played and I'll have another one day or a Wizard.

UU is in a different realm. Reza whispered all the right things in reinhold's ear. I would put it up against any amp out there. The only reasons I wouldnt get one is it has way too many channels, and i am wary of fuses on pcbs.

But my weirdness aside, i played it side by side with some amazing amps and it is without a boost, everything you need if you play metal

Also I wouldn't have minded it being able to get tighter. If the density knob allowed the Engl tightness for example it would be the perfect amp and the best amp of all time imo.

All the channels are usable. The cleans are amazing for a high gain amps, CH1 gets brutal, a different type of brutal then the Ultra settings and it even is able to cop a ghetto version of some Jose. You can get it sounding like an old 80s death metal amp so for anyone who likes Doom or brutal metal it's a great amp.

It is dead quiet with a zuul. I think the best thing about it the UU is the loop. I mean...Who the fuck uses a parallel loop for high gain? Jesus

The Rev 1 Uber’s I’ve had definitely varied and I had my clear preferences, but they still at least did their thing overall in sound and feel that I couldn’t get in the later the versions that came after. I would use those same descriptors for the Rev 1’s I had other than hairy, but maybe just different ways of describing things

I love modern IF it’s done well, but not if it’s in the form of sounding filtered, synthetic or cardboard-y/lacking richness. I don’t even think of that as modern, just not good. It did cut surprising well, better than a lot of my amps actually, but at the same time also kind of gets washed out in a way. For more technical stuff where the ultra can maybe have an advantage I also felt when AB’ed the Hell Razor or Hermansson’s were just so much better for that as well as the Mako Dorado. Tighter, more articulate and better tracking. I couldn’t find a logical reason to keep it between those and the Rev 1

80’s DM and Doom tones were/are raw, primitive and crusty af, and tones an UU is not capable of.
