Canada should put a 15% tax on their energy exports to make it up to the 25% you put on everything else they export. That'd hurt.

Actually if I ran Canada I'd cease trading with the US entirely - that'd really fuck you up.

You don't treat friends like you are treating Canada.

The fentanyl thing is a complete joke. Did you see how much comes through Canada compared to Mexico - like nothing...

Nope, we don't need their energy. We only buy it from them to help them.

Watch your prices go up.
Very short term until we circumvent.

Canada needs the US to survive, there is no way around it. Should the US just take Canada, nobody thinks that way. And all DT is asking for is to secure the border, they just don't want to.

You import more from them than they do from you. So a 25% tax on everything will just increase their revenue inflow compared to yours. However I think they can replace a lot of their consumption from other countries.

That’s false. Completely.

I believe you have a trade deficit with them. Therefore if you both increase tariffs by 25% then the status quo remains and they get more revenue.

I am guessing that their exports are more natural resources than consumer goods. Canada can replace consumer goods from other sources. They'll find other places to import from.

You can’t count American companies manufacturing in Canada and shipping it back down here as an export. It’s bullshit and everyone knows it.

What's going to happen with that - do those sorts of exports also attract a 25% tariff?

Even if you do, you’re not helping your argument.

^^^ The answer from my cursory search is I think so.... So what I said is correct then. Canada should get more from Tariffs than you get because they have a trade surplus with the US.
