Thinking of releasing a couple of rack preamps back into the wild. Which one would you keep and why?

(1) ADA MP-1
(2) Peavey Tubefex
(3) Roland GP-100
 
I'm kinda torn between the MP-1 and the Tubefex. The only unique thing about the Roland is that it's actually US domestic market and runs on our 120V power. Most of the ones I've found for sale were Japanese and run on 100V out of the wall. I've read mixed stuff on that, some saying it's OK to run on our power and others saying it'll burn 'em up.
 
Only played the ADA. However, I had all 3 of them at some point, the OG, MP-2 and the Classic.. I like the original the best..

I’ve never tried any of the 3, but on the spur of the moment if I was going to get one I’d try the ADA because I think it’s a little more iconic.
 
ADA MP-1....Had one yrs ago with a BBE sonic maximizer, Quadraverb and a rackmount Tube Driver with two 4x12 cabs. Sounded good for what I was doing. Nice cleans//heavy distorted sounds and all in between.

I haven't tried that one. The only thing Transfex I can find is a head or combo. Did they make a preamp? The Tubefex is like the Rockmaster tube pre, but with effects built in. It's actually really cool. but doesn't seem to be highly thought of if the poll results are any indication. LOL

I think it's pretty rare to find a working Tubefex these days too, the rechargeable batter in them had a tendency to start spilling it's guts all over the PCB and ruining them. When I got this one, it was on the verge but I caught it in time and replaced the battery.

I love the rockmaster, I think it's underrated, i've never played a tubefex though - i'm guessing not a lot of them survived because of the battery thing

100% agree on the Rockmaster. Got this Tubefex from Ebay, and the guy selling was really cool and provided a ton of additional pics of the guts, etc.. so I could really look at it before I bought it. I could see it was just starting to leak a little bit, but still lit up and would show presets so I took the chance. Cleaned up what little corrosion I could find with denatured alcohol and Deoxit and put a new battery in it. So, hopefully it's good for another decade or so. Great preamp though.

TBH you can always find ADAs, Roland (at least the USA ones are pretty rare) and it sounds like the tubefex are rarer still.

I'd probably sell the ada since you could feasibly find another one, and keep the other two, if you have to.

I guess it was only a head . No rack . It’s was trans tube with crazy wild effects . Wildly underrated

If I could get back one piece of gear that I have sold through out the years... My ADA MP-1 Classic would be at the top of my list. That and the 1974 LPC that I foolishly let go.
