First off, Im not anti Trump in the least.

I don’t pay much attention, if any, to NPR.

But defund PBS?
Is PBS that bad and I haven’t noticed?

I love Austin City Limits, Antiques Roadshow and History Derectives!

Did I miss something?

Why should the government ( me and you ) fund either ? Do you know what the difference between PBS and NPR and regular media outlets is ? They can't sell advertising. So instead they sell "Sponsorships". Do you know what the difference between ads and sponsorships is ? Nothing.

So why should I be taxed to support media outlets that don't align with my values ? Should we all be taxed to support MSNBC ?

My tax money I imagine gets wasted way more than on PBS?
What’s wrong with Sesame Street?

I remember loving Spider-Man on the Electric Company show.

I get your point, and honestly didn’t think of it in the way you did.

Maybe nostalgia, and programming I still enjoy made me soft?

I remember them in the later 90’s airing Farm Aid when Phish played, loved it. Neil Young came out and jammed Down By The River with them…

I enjoy some PBS stuff. My wife subscribes to their streaming thing. That's how you support entertainment platforms in a capitalist-ish society.

NPR also has a program or two that is ok. Most of it is a degree or ten left of MSNBC though. I don't feel like I should be taxed to support it.

NPR has those Tiny Desk shows that are cool, but that’s all I know of.

I get your point though Floyd, just didn’t think it out I guess.

Honestly, I never realized or thought about it being govt funded until I saw it on the 5 o’clock news.

Yeah there are other much more expensive ridiculous things that are taxpayer funded, but that doesn't make these legitimate.

Yes. They are democrat/deepstate propaganda outlets.
I guess they could turn PBS into the Sesame Street channel and just play that, but only Sesame Street from like 2000 and before.
NPR gets like 300 million a year and PBS gets like 600 million a year or some shit. In 1996 their budget combined was $500 mil adjusted.

you can't have government money going to any news/broadcasting outlets IMO. At least not how political power is used today. News has to go back to being non-biased, or it's just propaganda. I loved those shows too, but they've become tools to shape adolescent minds.

Don't be jealous cause I have that executive level membership, the coffee cup, the PBS sweatshirt, and the calendar. Viewers like you? Hell no, viewers like me!

Because they speak truth to power and he wants to control all media messaging.
When someone says "speak truth to power" that have identified themselves as a moron. On the same level as "full stop".

I love Austin City Limits, Antiques Roadshow and History Derectives!
Austin city limits went down the crapper when they stopped booking blues and country and started booking any bullshit trendy band. Rock music has no place there. Antiques roadshow is actually a scam. One of their civil war era appraisers was caught red handed over at blade forums making forgeries of civil war era bowies and selling them for $$$ to unsuspecting collectors. The scam included the same "experts" writing a book with values assigned so that he could back up his own scam with "credible sources".

PBS must be destroyed along with NPR.

You probably weren't paying close attention. I get what you are saying though. Austin City Limits and the short lived Lonesome Pine Special was the only access I had to live music growing up. But it's also not 1989 anymore. We shouldn't be funding them any longer when just about everyone can watch live streaming concerts on youtube. They are no longer supporting the arts they are just supporting deep state corporate powerhouse bands. Further, they run interesting nature shows that are used to subtly convey ideas like "climate change" and "global warming".

It's wrong to tax people on the bottom for shows that serve only to enrich the upper tiers of society. PBS and NPR are dinosaurs whose day has come. Good riddance.

I have good friend, that has watched CNN and NPR up till now, thinking they were credible news organizations. He wouldn't vote for Trump because of the "very fine people on both sides" BS clipped propaganda. He's slowly waking up, after watching Dems fight losing the deep state money.

Like you, up North we didn’t have cable, but PBS had programming.
Saturday Steamboat and Bill Saif’s fishing show were religion in a way.
Especially the fishing. We grew up on Guffins Bay (east end of Lake Ontario). Off Moffat Rd.
Fishing was life.
My younger cousin still has/owns a fishing charter up there out of Henderson Harbor.

I just never thought anymore about it. I work and raise my kids and fuck off basically, politics and religion have never been my strong suit. The lesson here is appreciated though…

Totally get your point.
News wasn’t anything I was watching.

hey man, I'm not knocking you. I actually wish sometimes I knew less, because it's infuriating. Especially after being a Democrat for the vast majority of my life.
