It depends but I like either E flat or E.

On Les Paul's it's E flat but on Strats it's either or.

I’ve been playing in a tuning I call Black Zep. DADGAD but down 1/2 step to C#G#C#F#G#C#. Heavy and exotic.
That’s pretty much open C#. Burden in my hand and a lot of other Soundgarden is in that tuning.

It’s C#sus4 tuning. 1st, 4th and 5th scale degrees.
Open C# is a major triad w/ R,M3,5.

I play my six's and seven's in either 1/2 step down Eb, Bb, or whole step-down D, A. For some reason I never got into drop tuning (drop D, drop C etc.)

Ok. So the only difference is the F# is an F, right ?
Open C tuning exists in several flavors of C major triad - some combination of C,E,G. ie… CGCGCE.
Tuned up a whole step yields some variety of DADF#AD- Open D.
DADGAD (the Zep tuning) is a modal D tuning with the F# major third (of open D) up to G the perfect suspended 4th.
The tuning I use is DADGAD down half a step. Identical theory as the aforementioned.
Damn this got muddy quick. lol
