Page's tone at Zep's 2007 Reunion

Live aid was such an embarrassment for them. Page blames Collins. Collins blames page… I’m sure the heroine didn’t play any part in that travesty… I have a hard time believing that a musician of Phil Collin’s caliber could screw that up. Especially when there’s tons of recordings of page butchering shit live. And page is the reason I picked up a guitar to begin with….sorry for the tangent Jonny!!!

Yeah, Page looked like he was hammered at Live Aid.

He played through the Orange the whole night, except during the theremin solo.

I found his sound to be muddy and flubby, except for when he kicked on the SD-1 for solos (Rock and Roll is a great example).

I agree. Plus, Collins should have stayed out. Zep finally had a drummer they were considering, the legendary Tony Thompson. I met Tony at a NAMM show shortly after the Zep situation. Super cool dude. During our conversation he also told me "I use old Ludwigs in the studio because they resonate."
