Hey all,

Anyone have experience with both pickups and could provide some insight? Lundgren M6 is also in the running. Thanks!

Not a fan of any of those, but would probably choose the rebel yell of the three

Kind of depends on the use case, if you were wanting lots of low end the lundgren might be the right choice

Like Dan said, I really didn’t care for either having had both. Like all BKP’s, both have that 2D, sterile, no personality/vanilla thing going on. The Aftermath is just a tighter, modern, ceramic, slightly quacky/nasal take on it (focused mainly in center and uppermids) and the Rebel Yell had a bit richer, more traditional Alnico sound, but also tight and articulate (at least something positive there lol)

The Lundgren M6 is imo a way better pickup, but also very different with a somewhat specific sound. It has big lows that are somehow tight, defined yet kind of boomy at the same time, scooped mids, strong highs. No one talks about it, but the M6 neck pickup and cleans are also some of my favorites, in some ways more impressive than the actual M6 bridge high gain tone lol

For high output pickup my real favorites are the ‘80’s Schaller Blade and Hex neck (in the bridge position actually), Dirty Fingers and after that the various vintage Bill Lawrence’s and Mighty Mite’s. No BKP belongs in the same conversation as these lol, but I do like Lundgren’s for something modern and unique

Yeah I can definitely see a use for either the rebel yell or lundgren depending on what Chris wants to do with it, though I think there are probably better options out there

The aftermath is one of my least favorite pickups of all time though, it reminds me of someone taking an especially honky JB and then cutting out most of the nuance and adding a ceramic magnet

Rebel Yell has more character in the mids and more crunch than Aftermath. A vowel thing going on in the mids. The Aftermath to me was pretty bland. I have Lundgren The One set in a Mahogany/Maple Skervesen and they kill any Bare Knuckle I've played. More open, more organic, more aggressive, at least this set in this guitar.

I think the painkiller is even worse lol (having had an aftermath and painkiller in the same guitar) and even more apt to that description, but both were similar overall to me. The painkiller was especially honky, nasal to me in the mids. Not like there was much nuance to take out in the first place of a JB lol, but I guess if anyone can do that it’s BKP! How wonderful!

The Lundgren M6 is to me a specific enough flavor that I haven’t tried anything that I’d say is like a better or worse version of it. My favorite high output pickups are listed above though. If I wanted something in the ballpark of better at what the Rebel Yell does I’d say maybe a ‘70’s Bill Lawrence L100 or ‘60’s/‘70’s Gretsch Supertron. Not that either are really much at all like it, but imo just light years better at why I think one would like that pickup for its relative strengths, but I don’t like any BKP’s

Totally agree on all this. I should try the One and maybe Black Heaven. So far the only Lundgren model I’ve played has been the M6 (and M7). I’ve got 3 M6 sets now

I guess I should say as far as BKP models go I did like the Rebel Yell’s more than most others

What is the spacing of the Lundgren bridge pickups? I don't see it mentioned on the site. I need something for a Star parts-guitar with a Floyd bridge. Was waiting for scottosan to start back up but now need something else. The One and the M6 look interesting.

I had an aftermath (covered) in my Mayones Regius 7 string that I replaced with a Lundgren M7. It’s been a few years since I used the aftermath but I didn’t dislike it, but the M7 is much fuller sounding yet still about as tight.

The aftermath is kinda light on the low end, does have a honky/scratchy thing going on in the upper mids, which is probably why it works well for djenty/tight palm muting and staccato playing. Lundgren I think was punchier and maybe clearer sounding.

I’ve tried the Aftermath twice, it came in 2 guitars. Agree with the assessments here. It sounded thin and brittle to me. I could dial my pedals and amps to compensate but never liked it.

Never tried the Rebel Yell.

The M6 is kinda like the opposite of that. It's the most sharp, tight pickup I've ever tried.

I’ve tried a black heaven in a Les Paul before. IMO too low mid scooped. Sounded very clean/choked.

the One might be my favourite Les Paul pickup so far. More body/growl while still manages that tight Lundgren low end.
That’s solid. I was thinking of the one and had the order page up. This pushed me over the edge.
