BKP Polymath

The neck pickup was the pleasant surprise for me. I kinda figured what I would get from the bridge, but the neck is a killer. I have them wired for splits at the moment, but I think I'm going to change it to series/parallel.

Great description; exactly how I feel about them. Tight and articulate like most BK pickups, but the way the mids are voiced make them super versatile, easy to play (no weird freqs getting in the way of your playing). Really some of the best new pickups I have tried in a while.

I have a set of the PolyPAF's going into a Knaggs Kenai build I have coming, so I am super excited to give those a go as well!

Any news on PolyPAF? I am thinking about putting Polymath’s in a PRS McCarty (25” stoptail)

Is this the Nolly signature pickup? Or is that a different pickup?

Nice! What pickups are you replacing in the McCarty? The old OG McCarty pickups?

The way I would describe the PolyPAF is very clear and controlled. Tight, slightly subdued bottom, clear top end (but not really the almost single coil like shimmer you get with traditional PAF's) and a bit more midrange than a typical PAF. They don't hammer The front end of your amp, but will stay very precise regardless of the gain you decide to use.

if I had an old McCarty, they would be a great pickup candidate for it. I love the OG 58/15's in my 2015 McCarty though.

They have 58/15 LT. I did not buy the guitar yet, but soon.

I will try the original pickups in my rig first but I would like to use that guitar for Drop C hard rock/metal so expect them to be replaced.

I have been curious about Polymath’s for a while and I think McCarty is a good candidate for that. Being bright with stoptail, it might be a good match. Also the parallel clips on the BKP website sounds great, instead of split I can wire them parallel. Like the tones Eddie get:

The next PAF set I would like to try is Marshallhead, then it comes PolyPAF. But I am not sure if McCarty is the correct guitar for them.

I really dig they 58/15 LT'S. They are also very percussive and clear and definitely have more of that almost single coil like top end a good old PAF has.

But they do lack oomph: not alot of chunk on palm mutes and pretty tame output. Give them a try, but they wouldn't be my first choice for Drop C. The 85/15's and \M/ pickups are much better for that (for PRS pickups).

McCarty's are amazing though. Probably my favorite PRS overall.

I played the guitar through Marshall’s new modified plexi so I definetely need to try the guitar in my rig. But the pickups felt exactly as you described, it has more of a heavy tele tone than a chunky les paul, but I dig it. The split sounds are also very good. Very good guitar as it is for classic rock or so. But being a hard tail and 25”, it’s a very suitable axe for my D standard recordings.

Which pickups are you using on your PRS guitars?

Killer! I've been really interested in these and are planning to put them in a PRS Baritone I have my eyes on. I think the lower output and less low end is exactly what I'm looking for with extreme low tunings. They sound nice and articulate here, well done! EDIT: I thought we were talking about the PolyPAF.

Well, that was freaking anticlimatic.

I like BKP pickups. They sound great.

Well....I used to rip out the pickups on any PRS I got. Never liked the Dragon II's, HFS and original McCarty pickups.

I do like their newer pickups; the 57/08's and on. My 2015 McCarty has 58/15's...which they don't make anymore, but are awesome. They are essentially the LT's with more juice!!
I have a PTC (PRS factory) modded 305 model with an 85/15 bridge I also like.
A Tremonti model....with Tremonti pickups.
A 2006 Singlecut with Seymour Duncan Custom Shop S-Decos.
.....I have more but, any of the later ones, I essentially left stock.

Oh!! A 2012 Custom 24 with BK aftermaths. While I DO like the 57/08's is came with....I always found they kind of fall apart with high gain and fast/technical riffing.

I also have a 2011 NF3....those narrowfield pickups are absolutely killer!

Thanks for sharing! I heard many great things about nf3s, but one single coily guitar (which is my strat) satisfies my current needs though I would like to try it one day.

I also remember liking 58/15 pickups on another guitar some years ago, sad that they are making them anymore. But the world does not suffer from the scarcity of pickups so I’m almost sure I can find something I like for that guitar. It’s also an excuse to try different stuff which is always fun

Oh man....the NF3 is a killer guitar. I bought a NOS one in 2017 for a steal. The dealer told me I was the first person to even inquire about it. Fell in love with it.

The guitar itself plays great: raw maple neck, jumbo frets...but the pickups are so good. Output wise, they are like a hot PAF, have all the attack of a single coil, but more heft. If you see one for a good price, definitely take the chance on it!

And I agree with you; plenty of great pickups out there!
