Central banks have been buying a lot of gold over the last year. Countries do want to leave the dollar, but I think it's very unlikely to happen. Only way I could see that happening is if there was a big war, which would be horrible.

Global trade is dollar based, so Trump is kind of shooting himself in the foot w/ tariffs to the extent he wants to retain that position, but regardless I think it will continue to be the foremost reserve currency even if more trade move aways away from the dollar.

No other currency is going to replace the dollar anytime soon. Gold already is up sharply, just like 2008-2010, and for the same reasons. People want to own gold in times of uncertainty.

I mean I would say your all right and it's a combination of things feedbacking off each other.

Tarrifs pushing dollar down, pushing yields up, raising uncertainty and raising gold higher.

Every day News.com.au has a live commentary on Donald Trump that updates several times a day because he's a circus performer and it's the best show in town. No kidding either. The only other live commentaries I'm used to is for disasters and sporting events. I guess this comes under the former rather than the latter.
