Kind of want to make this thread for stuff that aren't necessarily deals.....


But for stuff that is in low quantity or kind of stuff that is hard to come by and in short supply sometimes or has just been released or restocked....


For example I didn't know Shuguangs were being made again. You can get some 12AX7 or EL84 Chinese tubes. The EL84 have been hard to come by forever and batches of the 12AX7B or derivatives of it pop up here and there......

Pretty much here are all the ones I could find available now in limited quantities......


If your on a budget get 12AX7Bs and you'll have a lot of the qualities that make these tubes bad ass.....

If you have more money and just want the best get the Groove Tubes 12AX7-C........ if you want middle of the road 12AX7AC5 HG or HG+.... Honestly most would be happy with an HG I imagine but if you want spend the extra on the +...... Even friggin Ruby Tubes has an HG version of a Groove Tubes 12AX7-C.....



The 12AX7B are pretty much your average Shuguangs 9th Gen, 12AX7AC5 are even better I imagine and many swear by them....... IMO and from first hand experience.... Grove Tube 12AX7-C are just heaven in every regard for what I'm after and that is pure higher gain with more fidelity. They have this in standard or HG versions at Ruby Tubes or the others are at Ruby Tubes Ebay, Dougs Tubes or The Tube Store.


EL84C only at Ruby Tubes for a song too...... these aren't amazing but they aren't bad for the money and a good alternative to JJs.

Don't horde and get as you need....... limited quantities here and there but don't horde.
 
I bought 10 of the 12AX7Bs in preparation for mods and just to try them out. Unfortunately many any of them have turned out to be microphonic. Not all of them, but many of them. If you’re buying 12AX7B’s buy double what you think you’ll need because there’s a high probability a few or more will be useless and microphonic.

I’m thinking of going JJ E83CC as they’re supposed to be an improvement over the regular JJs in terms of tone and reliability. I’ve always hated the JJ ECC83S fizzy fuzzy mess. I do also like ECC803s and used to run them in 5150s.
 
Just ordered two GT 12AX-C for a little less than 100$ in HG from Ruby Tubes.....




Yeah don't regret it and more awesome Chinese tubes for me and in the drawer ^_^



12AX7B ARE THE BEST!!!!!

In general they are higher gain, tighter and more pure kickass than any JJ WHATEVER premap........ 12AX7B are worth it and cost a song at these prices.......

Even the regular ones nvm the GT versions......


Short of that would recommend a Sovtek 12AX7 LPS........or a Groove Tube 12AX7-C or a 12AX7AC5 HG or HG+

Thanks, I just asked Mike B. @ Boogie about preamp tubes and he said to just experiment. I told him that twice with Boogie Mark amps I thought I was upgrading when in fact the tubes I thought would be awesome, weren't. One time I took out the SPAX that were in a Mark 3 and put in new Mullard tubes, nope. Another time it was the Soviet LPS's that worked great and the replacements were less potent.

I ordered a trio of the GT 12ax7c's for my Boogie C+. Thanks for telling me about these tubes. I got the HG+ ones.
 
As far as current production, I’ve found nothing better than the EH7025……and it’s not even close. The recipe for all my amps is the EH7025 in all positions except V2……..I put NOS RFT there. I only use Morris amps, but that sounds great in every one of them regardless of circuit and number of gain stages.

They are all 12AX7B derivatives...... but ImO.......


Don't know about 12AX7AC5 HG or HG+......... but IME the GROOVE TUBES 12AX7-C is well worth every penny....... and if your willing to shell out an extra 10 bucks for the GT 12AX7-C HG+........ As good or better than the regular HG I imagine.......


I'm just going for as good or better based of personal experiences..... and yeah GROOVE TUBES 12AX7-C deliver ^_^




In short don't expected to flip these as a player because they will carry their weight in value regardless IMO........ but just appreciate them as a player and enjoy *_*

They are all vastly different than Shuguang factory Chinese tubes. I think you’re a bit confused - Groove tubes doesn’t actually manufacture any tubes just as tube amp doctor doesn’t manufacture tubes. They just purchase, rate, and resell at a premium all different types of brands. Those 12AX7C are probably just basic sovtek 12AX7WC tubes.

No 12AX7WC aren't anything like Shuguang 12ax7B.....


Or GROOVE-TUBES 12AX7-C.....




Essentially 12AX7-C and 12ax7B are structurally the same tube as a 9th Gen 12ax7B but GROOVE-TUBES IME just exude a higher performance...... and yeah are nothing like 12AX7WC :LOL:


12ax7B is like the baseline tube....... 12AX7AC5 are like the next step up and as good as Groove Tube 12AX7-C.......


Any are awesome and yeah not anything like the Russian 12AX7WC.

In that sense fuck Dougs Tubes too right as they are supposedly good and just grades stuff too..... but yeah not really as they are genuine Shuguangs and the extra grading makes a difference......

This whole thread is like a thomann banner for groove tubes.

Use whatever tubes you please and if you want to spend more for groove tubes have at it. Trying to save you money and teach you the ways of getting better tubes yourself using common sense and not deal with fictitious tube lettering for tubes that don’t exist.
