I enjoy listening to alanis morissette more than van.halen, but i dont pretend that she is more talented
Yep. Two different things
I enjoy listening to alanis morissette more than van.halen, but i dont pretend that she is more talented
No, the argument isn't Priest vs Kiss, it's arguing that album sales equals artistic merit - it doesn't because artistic merit is completely subjective. That's why it's non-overlapping magisteria, and you're conflating.
That said, it's also black and white that Kiss
1. Doesn't write a bunch of their music.
2. Doesn't play their instruments on a bunch of their music.
Which means if you think Kiss music is awesome, you're arguing that you think Desmond Child and a bunch of session players have "artistic merit", because Kiss literally didn't make most of their "art" LOL
who's pretending?I enjoy listening to alanis morissette more than van.halen, but i dont pretend that she is more talented
I am glad you dont think I am picking on you. We all have our opinions. My point is it is very subjective ...even if really I am rightwho's pretending?![]()
Jesus doesn’t have anything to do with this…. Judas does tho…Dan.. Jesus
exactly. and there are other measures such as complexity, skills, talent, and record sales...which are all valid measurable attributes; some are objective, some are subjective.I am glad you dont think I am picking on you. We all have our opinions. My point is it is very subjective ...even if really I am right
Yes it was, because I helped start the argument: KISS vs Priest; including the fashion discussion/comparisons.
Many bands hire writers, before the Beatles, professional songwriters wrote songs not the artists/musicians. Many other bands use writers and other musicians...before and after KISS; for KISS is was mostly due to Ace, Peter or Vinnie being incapable, uncooperative or not showing up. Working with other writers worked out well for them too.
To say they didn't make most of their art is disingenuous; if you look at the writing credits, mostly early '80s, when they were having trouble with Ace and Peter, and finding their replacements.
don't stop believing, tho'.
you'll probably need to use more than that one finger for Rob.Jesus doesn’t have anything to do with this…. Judas does tho…![]()
Yep, that's why Justin Bieber sold more records than Van Halen.
More artistic merit, including because he had other people writing his music. Definitely checks out logically and is a sound argument.
Nikki Minaj, too. Immortal art with lots of artistic merit and album sales.
Culturally significant art like this can only be achieved with outside writers; and only quantified with metrics such as album sales, which reflect the infinite wisdom of the buying public. Great point.
Fuck this man just dropped a bomb & I have to agree here 100%…Ok..Kiss aside. Composition: meshuggah, soreption, dying fetus.
Absolute talent realized: jeff buckley, SRV

well at least we know you have a wide ranging eclectic set of music you enjoy. thanks for sharing!
...but we were talking about KISS vs Priest. try to stay on topic, or go hijack another thread. I already hijacked this one.![]()
Hey RSM, you are SO hung up on Rob’s sexuality it seems. At least he’s been owning it for 20 years now. Still waiting for Paul Stanley to come out
taste is subjective. Priest wrote what metal history? the gap between Sabbath and Metallica, and the thrash bands that made Priest sound dated and irrelevant, and left in the dust by the '80s?There is literally only Kiss VS Priest in your mind, it's not even an argument to anyone that has any taste whatsoever
Priest are actual musicians who completely wrote metal history; Kiss are a marketing company with banal music as an afterthought that lives on only through the nostalgia of boomers
Priest is overrated.Ok..Kiss aside. Composition: meshuggah, soreption, dying fetus.

I tried but Paul’s lip sync device broke down and neither one of us knows sign languageWell, did you have "the talk" with Paul yet?

That's funny. Like, Boomer comedy.
Priest is overrated.
