I went to one and was pleasantly surprised

I saw Music Go Round mentioned in Lisa's 'gear market' thread IIRC. Coincidently, I went there for the first time yesterday so I thought I'd mention it. One opened up recently near me and I went to check it out. They had obviously revamped the entire retail space because it was in a fairly old strip mall. It also is pretty close to an existing Guitar Center. I have gone to my local GC less and less over the past 5 years. I few good dudes there and good deals from time to time but otherwise, I just don't go there anymore. Some of the guys that worked there used to work at GC and they said M.G.R. was far better. :dunno:

So this one had a new space. Very clean. Very modern. Nice open spaces. Friendly staff that doesn't hover you. They do set ups and have drums and other gear as well. No amp repairs but generally a very good experience.

What I DIDN'T , know - is that they only sell used gear. I mean, a fair amount of the amps you could tell were used/old but ALL the guitars looked new. And I mean all kinds of electrics, bass, acoustics, ukuleles, etc.; and the drums all looked pretty new too. I will definitely be going back and I may try to work some deals there.

Another neat feature is that you can text them a pic/description of something you want to sell/trade and they will shoot you back a price. Granted it will be 30-40% less than their resale price (similar to GC) but it beats hauling something to GC only to be told by a random counter person how used your item looks :(

Your thoughts? :dunno:

Long ago I sold some gear to them in Atlanta in person. No issues.

I purchased from them online; one deal went through successfully; the other two not so much. I purchased an item online over the weekend, transaction was on my credit card, only to get an email Monday stating the item had been sold in the store, and the credit card refund would take 5 to 7 business days. This happened twice.

I called the store and told them if something has sold, they should automatically update their online listing to either remove the listing or mark it as sold / unavailable; or place a hold on the credit cart until someone at the store confirms the sale, not charge my card if they can't refund the charge immediately. 5-7 days of that charge on my credit card reduces what I can buy while I wait for the refund. They didn't care.

So I recommend if you plan to buy something online; from them: 1) call the store, 2) get the name of the person and note the date and time of the call or 3) ask for the manager; then 4) confirm they still have the item, maybe ask questions or for specific pics; and then 5) make the purchase over the phone and ask for an emailed receipt (which they should do) anyway, and to make sure they have your shipping address correct.

Sorry to hear that. Yeah if an item gets sold, it needs to either be pulled off the website (and the sales floor) or at least flagged internally so as it can't be put in someone else's cart :dunno:

That's true everywhere with everything.

I get that HTML (web) stuff is hard to change real time, especially for smaller companies like this, but they can at least be flagged somehow. Good advice though @rsm

I’ve had good luck, minus one piece of gear I bought & they sold out from under me locally to avoid shipping,
They seem better educated than GC on average as far as accurate descriptions & overall knowledge

Will do. There's an amp I've got my eye on just across the border into Illinois, if I ever decide to jump on it.. plus, my wife likes IKEA so I could convince her pretty easy to make the trip. lol
If there is an amp you want me to check out on the IL side, and you are really interested let me know. I'll go check it out.

Appreciate it! It's on reverb and pickup only, head and cab so no shipping. Probably would have sold it long ago if they were willing to ship. I think I've had it on my watch page for about a year and a half now but I need another amp like a hole in the head. I keep eyes on it, just in case I get up that way. lol

So the name has taken on a whole new meaning huh? 😂

I was just in the Atlanta store a few hours ago and the nearby GC. No comparison, Music Go Round has better atmosphere, staff, used selection. Just no new stuff but I buy most of the new stuff online.

I tried to buy a used gold B5 Bigsby from a Music go round a few months ago and they told me they only did in store sales. But it was listed online...

Seems retarded.
