What are your thoughts on the Diezel VH4?

well herbert has the shared (-/+) 2nd channel and no bright switches and no gain for ch1. my biggest gripes with this amp. channel 3 is already too compressed and even for solos a bit much. so i would like to have a shared channel 3 (-/+) so i could use 2ch- and 2ch+ as full dedicated channels...

2nd channel of the VH4 boosted might be more your thing than ch3 actually, but who knows.

IDK, never played a VH4. I have a VHX, and I like it, sounds and feels good, very versatile. In the end, I like Marshall amps, my Fender, Mesa and Diezel are for something different.

A narrow sound palette that is also amazingly variable - or perhaps inconsistent - based on the year it was made. Kind of like the Mesa Mark series. Peter likes to evolve and tweak the circuit, which is in the DNA of any passionate builder. Based on personal preferences you can get divergent opinions on which are best, which is fine. I've played earlier ones I loved. I had one from 2023 that I couldn't get rid of fast enough, but others loved. And interestingly I too had a VHX, 2023, which includes the VH4 circuit - and liked it on that platform, likely due to the included effects.

It's remained relevant going on 30 years.

I've wanted one for years for the Adam Jones thing, but every time I fire up my Rectos I'm like "meh, close enough".
I’m convinced the one amp that is Adam Jones’s tone in a box is the Fryette Deliverance. It checks all of the boxes.

@Simon Dorn Try the VH4 out with a Diezel cab if you can, particularly a frontloaded V30 model. Peter has told me he’s voiced the new models on their 412 V30 FL cab, and I agree. It brightens the amp up and makes the gain sound crunchy and awesome.

I thought about that (Channel 2)

Thanks. The matching Cab is an Option for sure, but i never played one (except for an IR, which gives a basic understanding of the Cab sound) and the Diezel Cabs are pretty much unavailable at Thomann's at the Moment.

I loved mine. Kept it about a year and a half, which is pretty rare for me. I think I moved it just to try something different.

Dude good choice . You know all my amps I have . Vh4 goes no where . The punch is better than most amps. I feel like this amp was so hyped on here for years people got sick of Diezel . Like 2008 to 2012 it was Diezel everywhere on here . There was always the herbet vs vh4 debate to be argued . Now it’s like Diezel is underrated on here . But I didn’t stop loving them .

I’ve had 4 of them. Sold the last one about a couple of months ago. I wasn’t using it much with Wizard around. Cool amp. Channel 2 is good on the newer ones

Actually i don't know all your Amps.

I see as lot of people buying a VH4 or Herbert before trying and I understand why. I also see people buying them again and again because they "want" to like them....but ultimately don't. The unique voice and compression has a certain "thing" that kind of haunts you once you've experienced it. That said, people who favor more traditionally voiced and familiar feeling high gainers (mesa, marshall, 5150) almost always end up selling their Diezels.

all i wanted to say, for me it's the VHX and therefore more VH4 than the herbert (still have have my herbert though), so i think it was good choice. guessing from your octane etc. clips you will like the bright switch...

there is stuff i love about them and stuff regulary turned me crazy. They get overly fuzzy and muddy with heavy strings or with downtuning (or dark/fat guitars in general) pretty quick! just cut some lowend+lowmids with an EQ pedal infront and it's still beafier than your typical Marshall.
since using a highpass infront, i haven't had a "bad amp day".
i am a straight in guy (i mean pedals, not foreplay and condoms) kind of guy, very stubborn and reluctant to try an EQ in front.
well since trying the EQ i can dial everything out, that regulary turned me crazy with the Diezels

I have never owned a Diezel but I liked Vh4, definitely dry and punchy. I want to get the latest Herbert at some point, I like what I’ve heard from it.

Well said. And: Sad but true. :)
