So I like having a tuner that's "live" all the time so I can tune on the fly if I have to without muting the rig while playing.

Polytune 3 mini into fractal FX8 with the PT3 set to be always ON

However, what I've noticed is when I have it set up that way, the sound gets a tad bit muffled.. definitely notice the difference when I test with putting the PT3 in a bypass pedal.

I tried having the FX8 input impedance set to auto and 1M ohms, but doesn't seem to make a difference.

Any thoughts ?

Thanks.

I use a buffer/splitter so output 1 goes into pedals (or your AxeFx) and output 2 goes to the tuner so it’s always on. Bonus, the output of the tuner can key my noise gate.

Which buffer so you use ?

Currently I use the Spliff from Fortin because it has more outputs, 1 for pedals, 1 for the tuner and 1 iso direct into my AxeFx for when I went to record a raw DI track

But for a long time I used a simple splitter from JHS (they’ve gone up, used to be $49 a couple years ago)

Hardware design aside, which in your opinion is a better quality buffer ?

Sonically I couldn’t tell any difference. I think with the Spliff on sale right now you get a lot more for an extra $39

Damn it. I was going to contribute to this thread. Now I have to post this:

Do You use FX8 in stereo ? You can use OUT1 R to feed the tuner. There is slightly tone change with PT3 buffer on and FX8 DSP bypass clearer and less tone-changing. What matter is first and last buffer in chain.

Thanks Bubucci. That's what I am doing right now as I figured exactly that on being the case with the PT3. I'll save my self some $$ and keep it wired like this.

Cheers 👍🏻
