I might have one on hand here in Denmark.

But how do I tell which version it is?

I have the ultra and would like to try out an old one. Hoping it’s a green or original. Or else I’ll probably pass.

If its a Blue, I'd pass. That amp is good but very generic sounding. The UU smokes the blue for aggression but the blue does have thicker bigger low end and sounds much less processed. It just doesn't sound that mean or aggressive to me. Too smooth around the edges, polite.

Good description.

At what serial number did blue start?
The early blues still had serial symbols and a hardwired power cord and they were somewhere in the 380 and above range I believe. They switched to numbers in 2005 IIRC and added bias points and removeable power cable.

I'm in the rare minority who loved the Rev Blue. Yes, it was different from the Rev 2 but thats what I liked about it. I did the KT88 mod to mine and it became an even bigger monster. Tightened up the low end some and added a nice air like quality to the highs. I agree with @MetalHeadMike though in regards to the polished highs. The amp reminded me of a Herbert to where it sounded like a record ready mixed and polished sound that made it a pain in the ass amp for live use, especially with its inherently ridiculous low end. Not enough aggression/teeth IMO but it still had a very nasty and unique sound like a drugged up Rectifier.

Rumors go that the Herbert is modelled after/inspired by the Überschall.

The green is a different animal than the UU. Love both. I didn’t like the others.
I’d really like to try a green but they seem difficult to come by lately. All I can find out there are blue and TJ.

I feel like I only used to see them once a year. Though a couple have gone up for sale this year which is cool. I like all the rare amps changing hands again. I have one now and really dig it. I did not bond at all with my blue when I got it. A lot of the major revisions all seem to be that era's take on "the heavy sound" which is why they all seem to have so many different voices

I was pretty disappointed with the blue.

and how is that one?? one to get? have the oppertunity
I had one, they sound great. Like a slightly less aggressive 2ch rectifier

You’ll easily be able to sell it if you don’t like it

They’re rare

I might be the outsider here but I really liked the uber rev blue back when I got one. I actually I am considering purchasing the ultra in the future but only if I will be able to sound just like my old blue...plus - of course - all the other tonal possibilities...do you guys have been able to make the ultra sound like the blue rev?

Why not just get a blue?

The original uber is not the same as the rev green. The original uber has even more low end than the green. The reason it was revisioned was the clean channel was too dirty sounding at loud volumes and the gain channel had low end removed or tightened in the green. The original Ubers are highly sought after and very collectible as they sound like a Bogner and a 2 channel rectifier mixed together.
