After buying, and selling, lots of gear over the last 3-4 years in preparation for early retirement, I'm at a point where I have what I want, have what I like, and all the sounds I want covered...with only a few exceptions.

I have several remaining items to sell, and a couple big ticket items I plan to buy.

It's an interesting place to be as I'm used to GASing for something; instead I'm enjoying what I have more, and not looking for the next thing.

Anyone else hit a gear plateau?

I hit it about a year ago. Still tinker with speakers here and there……but not buying anything new. I guess the only thing I gas for a little is a SS amp for death metal tones. Don’t want to buy used, and don’t know what’s out there currently that will do the old school Randall, Crate, Ampeg, etc thing.

I've been on a plateau for a long time. I only need one more guitar, one more amp, one more set of pickups, and one more fx pedal and I"m good to go.

The only thing stopping me is being out of room lol

I'm out of room too; one of the reasons I'm selling a few items, but there's nothing I want badly enough to make more effort to sell.

There's one guitar and one keyboard I want, but I have plenty of others...so no sense of urgency to sell or buy.

IMHO the only amp that will scratch that itch of an old Randall RG100ES is an old Randall RG100ES that is still working in good condition, but they will need new electrolytic filter caps and other electrolytics replaced by now. If you gotta have solid state I would say for something that's new the closest I've heard to my old Randall RG100ES are those new little Dime mini 40 watt amps judging by the clips out there.

My 1988 RG100ES was still going strong when I sold it a couple of years ago and it was still quiet and functioning fine but it was due for electrolytics for sure.

When I miss my Randall these days I just run my VFE Standout in to a Revv G-8 in to my Splawn modded Marshall and that get's me 95% of what my Randall got me and it makes me pretty happy but it still misses that solid state grind somewhat, it's still good but not exactly like the grind of the Randall so I totally get you wanting that S/S grind.:2thumbsup:

I've pretty tried everything I wanted to try as you. I know what I like and what I don't like so my GAS attacks for anything are minimal to non-existent these days which is kinda nice.:2thumbsup:

I’m close to a plateau myself (hopefully the last) and I can’t wait… more time to write and create instead of tone chasing

I struggle to do both

theres really just nothing more i need, and after 25 years now of collecting gear it feels great. guitars, amps, speakers, mics, drums, snares.. i really have a complete studio, now im gonna actually enjoy recording and releasing music that unfortunately never quite worked out like i would have liked in previous times.

I don't GAS for much these days. The only things that really interest me are marshall style amps like Ground Zero and Headfirst. The Friedman Jose is something as well but outside of those there isn't much.

Two things on my gear list: a new EBMM Majesty 6, and a new Yamaha Montage M8x workstation keyboard.

I have an older Majesty, and a Roland Fantom EX, so neither are urgent or immediate need.

Now I also want a new Hyabusa, had one years ago; there are a few new 2025 models around, waiting to see what the 2026 models will be. Already have my hardtail chopper, now I want a super sport and I'll have all the riding I enjoy covered.

I had a ZX-10R back in the day, and that was crazy enough for me. Have fun with the busa!

I have been focusing more lately on what I actually use instead of what looks cool. Yeah, all these complicated multi-effect units that can run 20 effects at once with MIDI switching and scenes, etc... all look very cool, but since I basically 1 one setting on delay, I really dont need it. Let's just simplify to a delay with one setting and just be happy with it.

Simplicity and practical over flashy options.
