Randy Rhoads tone improvement on Blizzard

He was using Altecs on Tribute and his tone absolutely killed.
Same tones he had on the albums, the only difference being the production.
RR knew exactly what he was doing with his gear choices and utilization of it.
All of this negativity about his tone is absolutely overblown and ridiculous.
His tone was unique af and ripped, and anybody with one good ear can hear past the production.
I guarantee nobody bitched about his tone until guitar forum critics came along.

Yep. People read shit on the internet and then repeat it as if it will make them appear like they know what the fuck they're talking about. The ONLY place I have ever heard anyone say his tone sucked was on the internet.

I have Blizzard, Diary, BATM, and The Ultimate Sin on vinyl. Bought back when they came out. Too bad I don't have a turntable to play them on.
I had Ultimate Sin on vinyl from high school and looked for it the other day and couldn't find it. Great album!

I heard Killer of Giants on the radio the other day and hadnt hear it in years. Such a great song and better than I remember.

And let’s not forget that he was getting his tone/gain from pedals into NMV Marshalls. No easy feat.

His tone cuts through anything. For example, I remember watching an NFL game one day. While the announcers were talking in the booth, I can hear the audio bleed of the arena in the background. I can tell Crazy Train was playing even though I couldn't hear any drums or vocals or even melody. Just the guitar. I just picked up on the tonal qualities of Randy's guitar because it cut through like a knife.

What’s better ? Original
No Bone Movies is one of my favorite songs by Ozzy/Randy.
Randy brings some of his Quiet Riot style to the band.

Also, I LOVE Randy's tone on Blizzard and Diary.
He was changing the world of guitar playing, and had his own sound.

Remember that the longest Delay available to Randy was only 401ms long.
Dial up a 401ms delay and see how that feels. It's not great.
Kudos to Randy for making it timeless
i like all the songs deep down .

Jake got paid for Ultimate Sin i.e. songwriting royalties. For Bark, she gave him an ultimatum, sign over all your rights or we'll just have someone copy your guitar parts and send you on your way.

At that point Jake could have taken the crumbs or go back to nothing in LA. If you think about it he really had no choice, have a career or be known as the guy who couldn't cut it as Rhoads replacement because that is certainly how Sharon and Ozzy would have spun it. Jake also only made about $500 a week on tour. Hell Vivian Campbell got paid even less, he was making $100 dollars a week.

Further Jake wasn't a family friend, he just said in his most recent interview he hadn't spoke with Ozzy in 40 years until his final show.
It amazing no one has shot her. I know of three local general contractors who were shot, and or killed, all of whom were known to be deadbeats like her.

I've said for years, at that time it was happening nobody or better stated people like us, complained or even discussed tone. That all happened as we got deeper into the 80's and there was an onslaught of new players and the switch flipped for EVH's tone being the benchmark. Now tone is almost as important as to whether you can play or not. Crazy.

Growing up in that era you'd drop the needle on Rush, Journey, Lizzy, VH or whomever and they all had vastly different tones and everything was judged on the song first and then, could the guy play - it either rocked or it didn't.

I think alot will eventually come out in a book or a movie because its a dynamic story. From what I've gathered, Sharon grew up in the music business and was not really on a path to 'inherit' any kind of piece of it. So when she bonded with OZZY she had some serious insight. She knew how musicians were, and probably had to have a filter to deal with them with all the drinking n drugging and eratic behaviours. She also knew Ozzy was a huge risk, personally and financially. Lets be real, nobody knew how long it was going to last with him. So Jake got an emotionally charged, your all replaceable attitude.

Zakk on the otherhand was completely different. Ozzy saw a childhood picture of him sitting on the steps of a house and had feelings evoked. He asked who that was, and a one in a million chance it was Jeff, to become Zakk. He was recomended on top of it by Mark Weiss the photographer and it was down to him and Jimmy Bell whom was left handed and dark haired super shreader like Yngwie in many ways. So, the band bonded with Zakk first, Sharon bonded with Barbaranne, Zakks high school sweetheart and later wife and Ozzy was already decided. The funny thing is his audition tape was weak. He was so much better live in N.J. So when you go back and watch Zakks Pentatonic Hardcore instructional, he is a Beast. And that style is from him deciding to not tread on certain things :

Just bypass the getting up to speed beginning and head half way in :

Funny stories : he decided to grow the beard on the Rockstar movie set. In the closing scenes he was wearing the beard and afterwards decided to give it a go!

When he put out the Black Label Stuff, Ozzy was like , " Zakkie, I don't want to be the Lead singer of Black Lable you know " . So it was a mutual realization. Not really a firing. Sharon went on to have Barbaranne as her understudy to the business when this all stared so she is very involved.
