Hey Guys,
I scored this guitar earlier this year and it was in desperate need of a refret.
I finally got around to giving it to a great tech a few weeks ago, who did a stellar refret on this beast with 6000 frets, which I also use on my Strats.
This model originally came with the classic EMG 81/85 set from the factory, but it had the Hetfield set when I bought it.
After the refret, I decided to see how it compared to my 2010s 81/85, which I had laying around.
To me, the 81/85 set it the clear winner with a less clancy high end and thighter bass.
The output on the Hetfield set also seemed a bit over the top to me haha.
I stumbled across this guitar on Kleinanzeigen and before that had no idea, that there was a factory metallic red Les Paul custom run in the 80s haha.
And as a big Zakk Wylde fan, it's great to finally have a good Les Paul Custom!
Here's how it sounds with a very fun 80s stereo setup
