question on half round strings

I tried a pair on my 335 and really like them
very warm and thick sounding for blues and classic rock
it was definitely an eye opener tonewise, i want expecting them to be so smoooooth and balanced

are the high strings also half round? i cant tell by looking at them

Correct, but I did offer you my best advice. Very few guys settle on half rounds. Welcome to the other side, where your strings, and your world, are flat, and resonate together in tune.

Just my two cents but Chromes are one of the worst flatwounds. They sound great at first then totally dead in a day or two. I realize that some flatwound guys like that dead thunk but the LaBella's hold their brightness for a good while. The jazz dudes seem to like Thomastik but $$$ and they are all heavy gauge 11-12-13 sets.

The G might be half round if it's a wound gauge. Otherwise they will be plain strings.

The half round part is just the wrap, not the string itself. Plain strings is plain strings. On a heavy jazz set the G will be wound but your B and E will still be plain. Does that make sense?

But. How the hell do my treble strings sound fuller and fatter. Same 10gu.

Bass strings sounds mellowy bright.
Great for funky comping.

Unless the bass is just making a nicer transition to the highs.

Eric Johnson uses a GraphTech saddle for his E-string because it has an insert that shaves off some highs. Get you some graph tech saddles for the strings you want to de-brighten.

The bass is just making a nicer transition to the highs. Wait till you try a decent set of LaBella flatwounds. Once you go flat you won't go back.

I've never tried them on an electric, but on an acoustic they have a nice warm mellow tone on the wound strings. They also help cut down on string noise when moving up and down the neck.
