Krank tweaking

My Krank cab needed some further adjustments to make it sound brighter, and clearer so I removed the V30s and installed a pair of Jensen Mod70 speakers combined with a pair of WGS Vet30s in an x pattern. The V30s would have stayed in but the Vet30s are a better efficiency pairing with the less efficient Mod70s and their midrange voicing is also more complimentary.

The Mod70 has incredibly tight lowend, neutral mids and a very pleasing & cutting highend that's remarkably always present but never fizzy or spikey. Which is exactly what I wanted. The speaker tracks very tightly and has more than sufficient lows despite only have a 23oz magnet.

I also determined the metal grill squashes and inhibits the highend freqs and blurs/smears the midrange too much, so going forward I'm playing the cabinet without the grill attached.

Being that I rear loaded the cab, the speakers sit rather far away from the grill. So the sound is just getting interfered with too much right as it's trying to leap out of the cab. It sounds much better with the grill off.

I'm satisfied with the results, the cab sounds clearer and brighter with a massive low end rumble that never gets boomy or sloppy.

With a thread title like that, I thought U B trippin son! Sounds like a cool pairing. Did that cab have the same grill like the 80's Boogie Cabs?

Haha... Gotta grab some attention to this boring post!
No, the grill was perforated steel. You can see some of it in the lower left corner of the pic.
