Who is buying it....... If a homeless guy or crack head goes to your places with 400 pounds of copper...... Shouldn't you let the cops know or ask some questions......

Of course arrest the thieves but maybe the people buying this stolen copper are as culpable or more so :dunno:

Depends on the recycling facility and their policies. In larger cities, recycling facilities are treated much like pawn shops requiring ID and can be charged/fined if found in violation. This is all due to the epidemic of catalytic converter thefts.

I scrap copper and brass regularly. A state issued ID is required. It’s the law. Scrapyards up in STL probably don’t care. And they probably pay about half.
I am sure you heard about it but a bunch of bozos just stole copper from over here where they are building out off Route 3.

Yeah. A lot of Ameren and other utility yards getting broken into over here too.

"Over the next decade, copper consumption in India and the United States will overtake China as demand for the metal weakens in China.

Beijing's industrial and infrastructure expansion has fueled a rally that has seen copper prices rise to over $10,000 a ton from $1,500 a tonne 25 years ago.

the USA will have a copper requirement of almost 2.2 million tonnes in 2031. This is an increase of almost 50% compared to 2026. For India, he forecasts copper requirements of over 1,000,000 tonnes. This corresponds to an increase of more than 30%.

Analysts expect President Donald Trump will also impose a 50% tariff on copper pipes and wires to encourage local production."

I'm assuming the US demand is for electricity?
Isn't everything PVC and PEX nowadays?
