Hey now.Floyds
Guitars. None of the ones I've tried or owned made me sound amazing.
Totally with you on the first 3 points.Crazy, I sound amazing on anything with a humbucker that I can intonate basically
There's a ton of stuff I hate, but the most divisive are definitely as follows
1. The Friedman BE and its derivatives. Hate it. Too smooth, too much gain, sounds like theres an IR on it constantly. Love some of his other stuff like the dirty shirley JLE and others, just don't like the BE
2. The Boss Katana. Probably the most overrated amp in human history. Sounds much better than the cheap practice amps of yesteryear, sure, but the gain sounds are ass. Deep fried ass.
3. Strandberg. The pickups sound like dick, it looks hideous, and I'm sure its very ergonomic and comfortable for everyone who wants to sound like shit and look like a dork.
4. Floyds. They work fine, they are just a time sink and a pain in the ass.
5. Strats with a single coil, traditional bridge pickup. Noisy, weedy, ass.
Totally with you on the first 3 points.
So-so on the fourth (I sorta make 'em work when I have too...playing EVH covers in a band for instance, but I naturally gravitate towards fixed bridges) and I installed a Dimarzio Vintage Heavy Blues II on my strat for exactly that reason; more beef, no noise.
Hell ya . Thats exactly how I feel about mine . It’s plays like a dream and is fun to playActually I have had a few Squire versions as well, and, no BS: they were more comfy than the guitars that cost 10x as much!
( *-once I replaced the nut, did fret job, glued loose frets, and set it up)
I swear, like 90% of dimarzio pickups have this midrange spike between 1.5-3k and it cannot be dialed out
It's like someone took a JB and put the honk at an even higher, more obnoxious EQ position
And it's not one pickup, it's a BUNCH of their pickups
I'm definitely aware of that, and that's one of the reasons there's NO PAF Pro in any of my guitars nor in my spare pickup drawer.I swear, like 90% of dimarzio pickups have this midrange spike between 1.5-3k and it cannot be dialed out

Yup, I just can't do the JB and can't do Dimarzios. Lots of pickups out there I have no interest in though.

But ya gotta try the Breed Neck in a mahogany/ebony guitar, the Norton, the 36th Anniv PAF neck, heck or the Super D in a Les Paul...
Based on you liking Schaffer's Larry tone, the Norton may actually be one of the pickups that works very well for that...or EVH for that matter (with a different guitar and amp combo of course). But yeah, a Norton in a Les Paul into an Engl Savage or Larry... should rip hard AF.
I'll expand this to any low-efficiency (< 99-100 dBSLP@1W@1m) speaker. Unless it's some sort of bedroom amp the last thing I want to do is cut the power of my Marshall or whatever in half.Celestion G12T-75's
I bought a really nice Ibanez once thinking I would love it and I just didn't. The neck felt small and cramped and I just didn't warm up to that guitar as beautiful as it was..................Ibanez guitars

I have the breed neck in my Ibanez. Pretty thick pickup, dialed it waaaaay down and it is now kicking ass and stealing lunches.I'm definitely aware of that, and that's one of the reasons there's NO PAF Pro in any of my guitars nor in my spare pickup drawer.
