The LXII has upgraded transformers though I believe. The pots on top don't bother me but I can see how they could. I found the default settings fine. That is one reason I have considered the Syn 5050.

did try my friend’s 2-50-2 rig. he replaced it with a 295 and then he sold both after borrowing and falling in love with my randall RT2/50. that’s now his live rig power amp and he has a strategy 500 in his studio rig.Have you ever tried the 2/50/2 ?….The 2/90/2 is good , I had both at the same time. I found the 2/50/2 better at what you mentioned. It’s a bit sweeter sounding, not as stiff and has better mids IMO.
The Mesa 2:90 was really good too and yeah it’s prob the best for leads , very sweet sounding. Overall I found the Mesa power amps to be a bit scooped though, they sound huge but I wanted to sit in a different range of the mix.Ive been using my Axefx live through tube poweramps.
Anyways it’s always give and take , I personally haven’t found the “best” poweramp for my taste yet. I tried the LXII also, it was good but liked the 2/50/2 a little more.
Totally agree! You can use it with a preamp but I wouldn't.
That’s interesting never tried the Randal. Where does that one sit in the spectrum?did try my friend’s 2-50-2 rig. he replaced it with a 295 and then he sold both after borrowing and falling in love with my randall RT2/50. that’s now his live rig power amp and he has a strategy 500 in his studio rig.
i still have the randall, vht and 2:90 and like you said, each have their own unique strengths i can appreciate.
it has a vintagey vibe for classic sounds with earlier compression and less headroom than the others. good for lower volume use, more mids and the increase in loudness is more controllable and linear. That’s interesting never tried the Randal. Where does that one sit in the spectrum?
I wanna thank you guys for the advice. The Fryette LX II arrived and it sounds awesome with the Soldano X88ir.
There is indeed a difference from the Power Station. It is very audible.
I have a ps2 but have been wondering how lx-ii would sound alsoI wanna thank you guys for the advice. The Fryette LX II arrived and it sounds awesome with the Soldano X88ir.

Sounds like I may need to explore this soon! The LX II kicked the Power Station’s ass.
Not fair because the PS was designed for something else, re-amping.
The X88ir really came alive thru the LX II
Yes, there’s a couple of holes on the top lid for adjustments to the Presence and Depth controls. That’s a total design flaw. It doesn’t affect me, but people that rack it are gonna have a problem. That being said it’s kind of a set and forget thing.I saw people talking about controls that would be inaccessible if you racked it. I didn’t see any in your Pic. Has the design changed or am I mistaking it for a different power amp?
If they’re similar to the PS2, they might be so subtle that you put them at halfway and forget about them.Yes, there’s a couple of holes on the top lid for adjustments to the Presence and Depth controls. That’s how I adjusted each one. The Presence and the Depth. I saw what the range was, and I put it in the middle (noon) and the Depth I turned off, cause I don’t like Depth on an amplifier. If they’re similar to the PS2, they might be so subtle that you put them at halfway and forget about them.

Yeah I've always racked mine, and never once felt like I needed to change either of those settings.Yes, there’s a couple of holes on the top lid for adjustments to the Presence and Depth controls.
