Line 6 Helix Stadium Hype Check

If you don't mind me asking, why do you prefer the rack? That's why I left Fractal and went to the Helix in the first place--who wants to lug around a rack case and a pedalboard?
I’d actually prefer the rack format as my band all has our amp heads in cases. I suppose I will do a rack drawer and small midi controller

How so? In my instance you have a floorboard. In yours you have a floorboard (I assume?) and something else.
A very small midi controller and my Shure wireless is less than half the size of the Stadium on the floor. Just like porn, size matters.

What MIDI controller? No expression pedals? I get the size thing, I play on some of the smallest “stages” imaginable but I still don’t see how your floorboard/controllers + the footprint for your rack case is smaller than 16x10”.

I say all this b/c I used to rail against the Frctal guys b/c I honestly don’t see a single advantage to a rack format. Even if you never move the thing you still have some sort of floorboard. And no one I’ve ever met uses the front panel controls for anything.

I have the Luminite and Shure GXwhatever wireless. That’s it. No wah because it’s dumb and no expression pedals because I’m fucking guitar player, not an “artist”

Also, as super cool as it is to be the guy on his knees on a dark stage trying to figure something out, I’d rather be upright with this bad back.

so no then, your rack footprint plus your midi board and fancy wireless unit isn’t smaller than the footprint of the Stadium?

A smart guy once told me size mattered 😀

Jesus fuck man. On the front of the fucking stage, where it matters, it is smaller! Lol. The amp case takes up the same amount of room whether it’s a floorboard Helix or Rack.

If you just want to be right, then fine. You’re right.

This has been the weirdest line6 release ever. It’s like they are trying to trump the epic epic fail of the quad cortex launch. Zero answers on by how much or even IF it’s got anymore cup power than the OG floor. No editor at shipping. Hoping they do t try to resurrect the carnage that were the Amplifi and Firehawk. Sadly I think this is the one forum Line6’s Eric Klein doesn’t frequent. I’m still betting the Stadium will be more than awesome and I can’t imagine that I won’t be trying to buy one soon.

Someone needs to come out for a guitar solution for guitarists, not astronauts. Have a full, every amp down to the bolts modeller and then have one that is limited and simplified.

I know I’m right. There is no reasonable advantage to have a hardware modeler in a rack format. Shit belongs on the floor. Unless you have a “carrying extra things” fetish.

IIRC they've never announced rack versions when the past beans and floorboards were first released bro', so it's par-for-the-course so far.

Not sure this time around, but Digital Igloo/Eric Klein has stated several times now that the rack Helix barely moves any units and there are no plans for a rack Stadium. Doesn’t mean they won’t do it down the road if he demand kicks up, but he’s shot down a good number of rack questions at TGF and TGP since the announcement.

Plenty of advantages to having something racked; if a whole band is on IEM’s and going direct it’s a HELLUVA lot easier keeping all that shit in one rack so you’re not running cables all over a stage going to a mixer, just one or two patch ays for FOH and monitors and setup is a breeze.

Running just a MIDI cable to a pedalboard with a couple controllers on it gives a lot more safety than having the actual modeler itself on the floor where it can get stepped on and shit spilled on it.

You know how small MIDI controllers are now?

Look at that Morningstar MC6 in the center bottom-

I’d much rather have that on a board in front of me than my full on FM9 or even my FC6 board where I actually had to plan out and practice switching and making it to the expression pedals in time to use the wah/whammy. I had to add an additional footswitch to my board just to ensure I’d be able to get to the expression pedals after switching to a lead preset because the length of the FM9.

I guess some of you guys don't have an open stage and welcome audience participation.
Gotta keep that shit in the back by the cabs.(y)

AFAICR every "model" since the original POD line has had a rack equivalent appear a while after release, so I'm tippin' there will be one.
Yeah, Helix Rack exists pretty much because we just... always made rack versions, not because they sold particularly well (at least when compared to floor-based units). In today's economic environment, we have to make more purposeful road map decisions.

Jury's still out. Many of us really want to make a Stadium Rack, but it's about convincing our bean counters and we need to bring receipts that we're accountable to.

We announced Helix Rack and Helix Control at the same time as Helix Floor. It shipped several months after Floor, however.
